Apple could be preparing to introduce the iPhone Air 2 sooner than previously anticipated. After months of mixed signals and conflicting reports, the latest claim suggests Apple may stick to its traditional fall launch timeline instead of delaying the device further. If this information proves accurate, it could indicate renewed confidence from Apple in slim phone designs, even as market interest in ultra-thin devices remains uncertain. Here’s what we know so far.
As per a fresh claim shared by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, Apple is planning to unveil the second-generation iPhone Air at its regular fall launch event in 2026, which is typically held in early September. This has reignited speculation about the device’s future after earlier reports cast doubt on whether the model was still on Apple’s roadmap.
The new claim contradicts a recent report that suggested Apple had removed the next iPhone Air from its development schedule without assigning a revised launch window. A subsequent follow-up had indicated that some Apple engineers were instead focusing on a redesigned slim iPhone model targeted for a spring 2027 launch, potentially alongside the iPhone 18 series and a more affordable iPhone 18e.
The same tipster also reiterated earlier information that the iPhone 17e has already entered mass production and is expected to be announced at Apple’s spring 2026 event, which usually takes place in March.
The iPhone Air 2 is said to address some of the criticism faced by the first-generation model. Rumoured improvements include the addition of a second rear camera and a possible price reduction. Other upgrades that have surfaced in leaks include a lighter chassis, vapour chamber cooling for better thermal management, and a larger battery.
However, Apple has not officially confirmed any of these specifications.
Apple’s continued interest in slim smartphones comes at a time when the category has delivered mixed results across the industry. Samsung’s ultra-thin Galaxy S25 Edge, for instance, reportedly struggled to gain strong sales momentum, leading to questions about the long-term future of slim “Edge” models. While thin designs remain visually appealing, they often require compromises in battery capacity, camera performance, and overall usability.
We can expect more details to surface online in the coming months.
