The Apple iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max have continued to make headlines since their launch, both for their impressive upgrades and emerging issues. While Apple’s latest Pro models have earned praise for performance, they’re now facing criticism for a new camera-related problem linked to the redesigned flash placement. Here’s the full story.

A fresh concern has surfaced regarding the camera flash. With the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, Apple moved the flash module away from the main camera cluster. It is a design change that appears to be causing unintended issues.

According to Instagram user Marcustechnology, the repositioned flash casts visible shadows on the subject when taking photos or videos, resulting in footage that “looks off.” This issue has not been reported in any previous iPhone models, as their flash was traditionally placed right next to the camera module.

Explaining the issue, the creator noted, “it kind of looks like someone is holding a light from the corner, and it’s honestly super annoying.”

The original Instagram reel posted by the creator showcases the problem in action, highlighting how the new flash placement may be affecting photo and video quality for some users.

As of now, Apple has not officially commented on the issue, but it’s becoming another talking point among early adopters of the iPhone 17 Pro lineup.

Earlier, users and creators widely criticised the iPhone 17 Pro series for its aluminium frame, claiming it scratches more easily than expected. At the same time, the devices have also been lauded for their powerful new chip, which boasts a significantly improved GPU, better thermal management with an upgraded vapour chamber, and the ability to handle AAA games without throttling.

Meanwhile, some users have even gone to extremes by attaching external SSD coolers for active cooling to push performance limits further.
