Apple is gearing up for its annual autumnal ritual – the release of its newest series of iPhones.
As the calendar inches towards the second week of September, when Apple typically unveils its latest gadgets, the rumour mill is in full swing.
Among the whispers and unofficial titbits, a revelation stands out: the flagship model of the iPhone 15 series may have a new name, signalling a departure from its predecessors.
This year, we might be introduced to the iPhone 15 Ultra, a name that could replace the familiar ‘Pro Max’ moniker.
A recent quote from Andrew O’Hara of AppleInsider gives credence to these rumours, “Here’s a late Friday titbit I’ve heard for #iPhone15. Multiple sources have told me Apple will indeed use the ‘iPhone 15 Ultra’ monicker for the plus-sized pro phone. This was an early rumour that got backpedalled. Most have since referred to it as iPhone 15 Pro Max.”
So what can we expect from the latest offering from the Apple orchard? It seems the iPhone 15 series will include four individual models: the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the headline-grabbing iPhone 15 Ultra.
Though ‘Ultra’ by name, the newest entrant is not anticipated to stray wildly from its brethren in terms of aesthetics.
Early renders suggest a shared design philosophy across the quartet, with subtler curves and more streamlined bezels surrounding their displays.
However, delve a little deeper, and distinctions between the iPhone 15 Ultra and its siblings become apparent.
O’Hara’s further revelations indicate that the iPhone 15 Ultra will boast a more expansive display and come equipped with a 10X periscope tele lens.
Apart from that both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra are rumoured to be crafted from titanium instead of the traditional stainless steel seen on the previous Pro moniker.
One notable departure from previous models could be the replacement of the mute toggle with an Action Button, adding a tactile flourish to the user experience.
Powering these innovations is likely to be the new 3nm A17 Bionic chip, representing the cutting edge of mobile processing technology.
