iPhone 13 leak hints at always-on display feature and more

HomeIn-FocusiPhone 13 leak hints at always-on display feature and more

The new iPhone 13 launch is still a couple of months away but the leaks have long spoilt the surprise Apple has planned for this year’s model. Over the past few months, we have heard a lot about the next iPhone series, thanks to all the rumors and leaks that have been coming out. In fact, we have seen leaks regarding its performance, design, camera, display and more. We already know that the range is expected to have 4 models, which will include, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. A recent leak now suggests that the iPhone 13 series may have an always-on display feature similar to the one on the Apple Watch. The same feature has been present on Android devices for many years.

Specifically, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has shared some leaks related to the next-gen iPhones in the latest ‘Power On’ newsletter. He writes that Apple’s iPhone 13 display will be far better than what we have been seen before. According to Bloomberg’s journalist, the next generation of iPhone flagship is also expected to have an improved battery life, better video recording, a smaller notch on the screen, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a faster A15 chip.

Gurman reports that Apple has tasked suppliers with building up to 90 million new iPhones for this fall, which is a 20 per cent increase over the 75 million units Apple planned in 2020. The new iPhone will likely be variable in nature and the transition will be based on the work you do on your phone.

Earlier, a leakster Max Weinbach had hinted that Apple may use the same low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) similar to its Watches on future iPhones. Apple uses LTPO panels on its Watches as they can support the always-on display feature. It dynamically adjusts screen refresh rates of Watch to conserve battery life. Another earlier report by Bloomberg reported that at least one of the four new iPhones will have an LTPO display. A noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, earlier this year, had also said that the new iPhone will pack LTPO displays and 120Hz refresh rates. According to him, iPhone 13 is expected to pack an ultra-wide lens with autofocus. This will mark a change from the present iPhone 12 Pro series where the ultra-wide camera has fixed focus and cannot focus on a specific object. The analyst also believes that iPhone 13 Pro’s ultra-wide lens will have six elements, instead of five.

Apart from upgrades in display, the next gen iPhone 13 may come in two new color options, that is, Pearl and Sunset Gold. It will likely to support Wi-Fi 6E and on the camera module on the Pro model is reported to be larger than its predecessor. In addition to this, the new iPhone is reported to feature improved wide-angle lens and faster wireless charging over the last generation of iPhones.

A new iPhone series will also likely to bring a few improvements to the device’s performance. The entire series might get storage options of up to 1 TB and retain iPhone 12 Pro Max’s dual camera set-up with a main camera and an ultra-wide camera.

While Apple may launch all the iPhone 13 models with OLED displays, most of these upgrades are expected to be reserved for the Pro variant. Most Android smartphones with OLED panel support the always-on display mode, which is customizable. Users can add settings toggles such as those for LED flashlight, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and cellular data on select phones. As per the previous reports, only the Pro variants will get the LTPO display technology along with the improved cameras. The smaller notch is likely to come on all the models and the bigger battery life could be reserved for the Max variant.

Last year, Apple re-introduced a flat-edged design for the iPhone, and the 2021 iPhone will likely build on that design. It is expected to be slightly heavier and thicker to accommodate the larger batteries and more advanced displays. However, none of this is likely to be officially confirmed until the Apple’s iPhone 13 series launches.

iPhone 13 release date and price

Apple is expected to release the 2021 iPhone, also known as the iPhone 13 series in mid-September. It will likely release them to the public after a short pre-order period in mid-to-late September. If we talk about the pricing of new iPhone 13 series, with one leak suggesting the structure is expected to remain the same. The iPhone 13 Mini will likely come in at around $700. The standard iPhone 13 will come in around $800, while the iPhone 13 Pro will cost $1,000, and the iPhone 13 Pro Max will cost $1,100.
