Details reportedly uncovered in internal Apple code reveal that Apple’s next iPad mini could see a substantial performance boost. The leak from an accidental code release hints at a major processor upgrade and possible future display enhancements, offering an early look at what may be in store for Apple’s smallest tablet. Here’s more on that.

A19 Pro Chip for Next iPad Mini

The code references an iPad mini under the codenames J510 and J511, expected to feature the A19 Pro processor. This chip, set to debut in the iPhone 17 Pro series later this year, will include more GPU cores than the standard A19. A binned A19 Pro variant with one fewer GPU core is also mentioned, which is likely headed to the iPhone 17 Air but not the iPad mini.

The current iPad mini, launched in 2024, runs on the A17 Pro from the iPhone 15 Pro. Upgrading to the A19 Pro could bring a significant boost in graphics and processing power, making the device better suited for demanding apps and upcoming iPadOS features.

Possible OLED Display in the Future

Rumours suggest Apple is developing an iPad mini with an OLED display, which could arrive in 2026 or later. It’s unclear if this transition will coincide with the A19 Pro upgrade. An OLED panel would offer higher contrast, deeper blacks, and improved energy efficiency over the current LCD.

The leaked code also points to a completely new entry-level iPad. These are reportedly codenamed J581 and J582, which could ship with the A18 chip as soon as next spring. Apple is basically expanding the tablet lineup to cover both budget-friendly and high-performance options.
