Google has officially launched Veo 3.1, the latest version of its advanced video generation model. It introduces major upgrades in realism, audio quality, and storytelling control. Alongside this release, the company has also enhanced its Flow filmmaking tool, integrating new editing and generation features powered by Veo 3.1.

Building on the foundation of Google Veo 3, the new Veo 3.1 delivers richer audio and “enhanced realism that captures true-to-life textures.” Google says the model now has a deeper understanding of narrative structure, cinematic styles, and character interactions, giving creators greater flexibility and precision when crafting stories.

The image-to-video generation capability has also been refined, producing higher-quality visuals and audio while adhering more closely to user prompts.

Veo 3.1 is available in two variants, Veo 3.1 and Veo 3.1 Fast. It can be accessed through the Gemini app, Gemini API, and Vertex AI. It supports both horizontal (16:9) and vertical (9:16) formats, making it suitable for a wide range of creative and professional use cases.

In addition, Google is rolling out significant improvements to Flow, its filmmaking assistant, designed to take full advantage of Veo 3.1’s capabilities.

The tool now supports audio generation across multiple creative functions, including

  • Frames to Video: Define starting and ending frames, allowing Flow to intelligently create the motion that connects them.
  • Ingredients to Video: Generate scenes using multiple characters, objects, and styles.
  • Scene Extension: Extend an existing clip seamlessly, with Google’s AI using the final second as a reference.

Flow is also receiving new editing tools that let users insert objects, characters, and fine details into scenes. The system automatically handles complex elements such as shadows, lighting, and scene consistency to ensure natural integration.

A forthcoming update will introduce the ability to remove objects or characters from existing footage. Flow will then reconstruct the background and surrounding environment to make the removal smooth and realistic.
