Google to invest $1 billion in Bharti Airtel: Details

As a part of its big India push, American internet giant Google is set to invest up to $1 billion in partnership with Indian telecom company Bharti Airtel. The deal includes a $700 million equity investment in Delhi-based Bharti Airtel for a 1.28 percent stake. Additionally, the deal entails up to $300 million towards potential multi-year commercial agreements.

Previously, Google has also invested in telecom company’s rival Reliance Jio a sum of $4.5 billion.

Airtel and Google, as a part of its first commercial agreement, will work together to build on Airtel’s offerings that cover a range of Android-enabled devices to consumers via innovative affordability programs.

Significantly, Google has had major investments in various Indian companies like Dunzo, Dailyhunt, Slang labs, and DotPe throughout 2021.
