The Delhi government, in collaboration with the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), has announced a new initiative to train 100 school teachers in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools for personalised learning and improved classroom assessments.
The training programme aims to equip teachers with the skills to integrate AI into their teaching practices, enabling them to adopt more innovative and efficient approaches to education. According to an official SCERT circular released on Friday, the move is part of Delhi’s broader effort to prepare students for a digitally-driven future.
Beyond classroom teaching, the initiative will also help educators handle non-teaching responsibilities such as creating PowerPoint presentations, designing extracurricular activities, and editing visuals, a government official told PTI.
The hands-on training will be held on October 8 and 9 under the ‘AI-Mediated Classroom Project’, a special programme designed to familiarise teachers with AI-based tools and their applications in education.
Currently, Delhi’s government school system includes 1,075 schools, 16,633 teachers, and 8,24,224 students.
According to SCERT, the project will be implemented in two phases.
In the first phase, 100 Computer Science teachers from 50 selected government schools will undergo a two-day capacity-building programme. These trained teachers will later act as master trainers for their respective institutions.
“Once trained, these 100 teachers will serve as master trainers and will guide other teachers on effectively using AI tools,” an official said.
The second phase will focus on school-level training for subject teachers of Mathematics, Science, English, Hindi, and Social Science, primarily those teaching Classes 6 and 9. Each participating school will nominate three teachers from each subject, totalling 15 teachers per school, to receive the training.
SCERT officials confirmed that the project will include follow-up sessions and feedback collection to evaluate how effectively teachers are using the introduced AI tools in real classrooms. “We are not only launching this initiative but will also conduct follow-up sessions and gather feedback from teachers to assess how well they are able to use these tools,” he added.
The official further explained that teachers often spend significant time preparing teaching materials, visual aids, and cultural activity plans. “With AI assisting in these areas, teachers can devote more time to interacting with students and enhancing the quality of classroom learning,” he said.

SCERT stated that the AI-Mediated Classroom Project aligns with Delhi’s vision of creating future-ready classrooms and promoting AI integration in school education.
“It aims to empower teachers to adopt innovative pedagogical methods, enhance classroom engagement, and improve learning outcomes through AI-based practices,” the department said.
The Directorate of Education has already identified and recommended 50 government schools across Delhi for the pilot phase and selected 100 teachers to participate in the initial round of training, SCERT confirmed.
