* The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is scheduled to launch this year alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5.
* The outer display of the upcoming phone will likely be 3.4 inches in size.
* The smartphone will also come with a 6.7-inch inner display.
* Its predecessor was equipped with a 1.9-inch outer screen
* Galaxy Z Flip 5 is tipped to feature a folder-shaped external display
We’ve been hearing for some time now that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is going to have a larger cover display. Precisely what that will look like potentially remained a mystery, until today.
Purported new renders of the Galaxy Z Flip 5 have surfaced online.
The new, larger cover display shines bright in these renders. While the device itself appears more polished than its predecessor, it’s the cover display that’s the center of attention here, and cuts what many may feel is a divisive figure.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 design renders have leaked online, giving smartphone enthusiasts an idea of what to expect from the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which debuted last year. While the South Korean conglomerate is yet to announce details of the purported Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 this year, the leaked images hint at a much larger external display than its predecessor, similar to Motorola’s upcoming foldable phone lineup and the Oppo Find N2 Flip that debuted globally earlier this year.
Tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (Twitter:OnLeaks) in collaboration with MediaPeanut, has leaked design renders of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. These images show the handset sporting a large external screen.
It will be 3.4-inch display as per the leak, that is much larger than the 1.9-inch panel on last year’s model. The display is also slightly larger than the Oppo Find N2 Flip, which has a 3.2-inch outer screen.
The external display could allow users to interact with the phone without opening the display, such as music playback controls as well as viewing messages and other notifications. as per the report.
The leaked images show a dual rear camera setup that does not have a camera island, similar to the Galaxy S23 series. The horizontally aligned camera module is surrounded by the external display that also partially occupies the area to the right – it was previously tipped to feature a folder-shaped design.
The renders also show the inner display on the Galaxy Z Flip 5, but the presence of a black wallpaper means that the size of the phone’s bezels cannot be determined. The report states that the foldable handset will be equipped with a 6.7-inch primary display.
The dimensions of the handset have also been leaked, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will reportedly measure 165×71.8×6.7mm. Last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 4 measured 165.20×71.90×6.90mm, which suggests that its successor will be slightly thinner this year.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 was recently tipped to feature an external display with always-on display (AOD) functionality, similar to the iPhone 14 Pro series of smartphones.
However, there’s no word on whether the phone will be equipped with a display that has a refresh rate as low as 1Hz, which can preserve battery life. As previously mentioned, Samsung is yet to announce plans to launch the clamshell-style foldable phone to succeed the Galaxy Z Flip 4, so it is worth taking these leaked renders and specifications with a pinch of salt.
Check out the Galaxy Z Flip 5’s irregular cover display design
The report accompanying the leak mentions that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 will have a 6.7-inch internal foldable display in addition to the larger 3.4-inch cover display. It stands out rather prominently in these renders that also include the familiar circular camera cutouts.
The shape of the cover display looks quite like that of a PC folder icon. That’s because the panel needs to be trimmed a bit at the top to make space for the dual cameras. If this is indeed the implementation that Samsung has chosen, it’s quite a unique one, and certainly not one that many Samsung fans would have been expecting.
Perhaps this quirky design might bring us new software features. A recent report mentioned that Samsung has started to adapt the software to match the cover display’s irregular design. This design could be divisive. Some may like it, others may feel that Samsung should have taken a different approach.
What’s more important, though, is the fact that this is a substantially bigger than the 1.9-inch cover display on the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It’s going to be a lot more useful and will make it possible for users to get more done without needing to unfold the device. This latest Galaxy Z Flip 5 leak joins a similar Galaxy Z Fold 5 leak that provided us with another glimpse at Samsung’s top-of-the-line foldable.
Samsung hasn’t confirmed as yet when it’s launching the new foldable phones. It’s rumored that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch may take place in the last week of July.

Faqs on Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5
1) What do Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 leaked renders show ?
Ans) The design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will feature a dual-lens camera system on its rear, a display cutout on the interior screen to accommodate the selfie camera, and a bottom-firing speaker beside a USB-C port, among other things.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is expected to feature a sizeable cover display with a distinctive layout. As per the report, it is taking more inspiration from the OPPO Find N2 Flip than its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. However, it also suggests that Samsung plans to enhance the outer display panel of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.
The estimated size of the primary cover screen is 3.4 inches, while the main display is expected to measure 6.7 inches. The phone’s dimensions are expected to be approximately 165mm x 71.8mm x 6.7mm.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 could benefit from an enhanced hinge design that minimises the display crease’s visibility when the device is unfolded. The enhancement could potentially enhance the appearance and durability of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5. When a smartphone is folded and opened over and over, it can put stress on certain spots. A better hinge design can reduce this stress and help the device last longer.
Also, users might be able to personalise the Samsung Galaxy Flip 5’s exterior screen with dynamic colour themes and widgets, allowing for individual expression of style, the report said.
2) What is Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 launch date?
Ans) Generally, the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event is held in August, during which the company unveils its foldable phones. However, this year, the company is considering holding the event in the last week of July instead of August, likely between July 25th to July 27th.
At the event, the company is expected to introduce new products, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series, and new earbuds. However, the launch date of the upcoming products is yet to be shared by the company.
3) Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 Design Renders: What’s New?
Ans) The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will come with some key design changes over the Z Flip 4. It is likely to debut in July 2023 in various markets. Ahead of the launch, the new leak by OnLeaks suggests that the Galaxy Z Flip 5 might get the biggest cover display on any Galaxy Z Flip series phone yet. The tipster shared the design renders and also revealed some key specs.
According to the design images, almost half of the rear panel is covered by the outer display. The rest of the space is occupied by the dual-camera setup and an LED flash module. It is worth noting that the cover screen, as per the renders, is not edge-to-edge. There is some space around the cover display, which could be to protect it from accidental touch or drops.
The report claims that the outer display is 3.4 inches tall. The foldable display on the inside will be 6.7 inches tall. The bezels are fairly thin around the foldable display. The foldable phone, when in an unfolded state, measures 165 x 71.8 x 6.7mm, according to the report.
Other details about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 have leaked online. The foldable display is said to offer a Full HD+ resolution. Its AMOLED display will support a 120Hz refresh rate.
There is a hole-punch cutout at the top centre for the front camera. Samsung is also said to use a new waterdrop hinge mechanism to reduce the gap between the display when folded.
Under the hood, the phone is likely to feature the custom-developed Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy, which has a peak clock speed of 3.36GHz. it might launch with at least 8GB of RAM, as per a Geekbench listing. The phone will also launch with Android 13 out of the box. It will have a layer of One UI 5 on top.
The camera specs are unknown. Samsung might launch the clamshell foldable with a 12MP main camera and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor. If the main camera does get an upgrade, it might feature a 50MP main camera. The foldable phone will support 25W fast charging. It is unknown if the phone will pack the same 3700mAh battery found in the Flip 4 or if there are any changes under the hood. The Galaxy Z Flip 5 is tipped to be available in Beige, Grey, Light Green and Light Pink colour options.
