As September draws near, tech aficionados are abuzz with excitement for Apple’s upcoming event. Slated to take place on September 12th at 1 PM ET, the occasion promises to be more than just a product launch.
Named “Wonderlust,” the event will be live from Apple Park in Cupertino, California, setting the stage for potentially transformative shifts in the tech landscape.
The spotlight will, of course, be on the iPhone 15, but other devices like the new Apple Watches and updated AirPods are also in the queue. Here’s what we know so far and what you can expect to see come event day.
One of the most significant announcements at the event is expected to be the iPhone 15. Reports indicate a monumental shift as the new iPhone lineup is slated to include USB-C compatibility, replacing Apple’s proprietary Lightning connector.
The transition isn’t entirely surprising, considering Apple confirmed the change last year to comply with European Union regulations.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo elaborates that while all iPhone 15 models will feature USB-C, only the Pro and Pro Max versions will benefit from higher data transfer rates—either through USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3.
On the charging front, the entire lineup is set to offer faster 35W charging rates.
iPhone 15: ChargingAlong with technical changes, Apple might introduce new aesthetic features as well. The Pro models are rumored to sport a titanium frame and thinner bezels, potentially pushing the device’s cost upwards.
A new action button similar to the Apple Watch Ultra could make its debut, replacing the existing mute toggle and allowing for shortcuts to different apps and utilities.
Additionally, leaked information suggests a periscope lens offering up to 6x optical zoom might be an exclusive feature for the Pro Max model, which itself may undergo rebranding to become the “Ultra.”
In addition to the iPhone 15, Apple’s Watch lineup is also set for a refresh. Though major changes aren’t expected, insiders suggest that a new S9 processor based on the A15 chip might power the Series 9 watches.
This could lead to better battery life and increased efficiency compared to the S8 chip in previous models. Other smaller changes include a pink color option and a new band with a magnetic buckle.
Apple’s commitment to USB-C won’t stop at the iPhone. According to reports, updated AirPods with a USB-C-equipped charging case are expected to launch at the event.
While Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the new charging case, the AirPods themselves might not see any significant changes.
However, should Apple decide to surprise us with fourth-gen AirPods, they could feature the H2 chip seen in last year’s AirPods Pro, potentially improving battery life and sound quality.
Apple will likely stream the event live on its website and YouTube channel. Though the livestream links are yet to be shared, we will update this article as soon as they become available.
While the September event primarily focuses on iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods, other products like new Macs and iPads might make their appearance later in October.
Reports hint at a new iMac, 13-inch MacBook Air, and a 13-inch MacBook Pro powered by Apple’s new in-house M3 chip. The seventh-gen iPad Mini could also see a release later this fall.
The event is scheduled for September 12th, 2023, at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT. It will be live-streamed from Apple Park in Cupertino, California.
The most notable change is the shift from Lightning to USB-C ports, complying with European Union regulations. Pro models will feature higher data transfer rates, and all models will have faster 35W charging rates. Aesthetic changes include potentially thinner bezels and a titanium frame for the premium models.
Major updates aren’t expected for the Apple Watch Series 9. However, an upgraded S9 processor based on the A15 chip is likely, which could result in better battery life and increased efficiency.
Yes, the AirPods are expected to come with a USB-C-equipped charging case. However, there are no confirmations on significant changes to the AirPods themselves.
