Apple is widely expected to introduce its first foldable iPhone this year. But a new report suggests the device may launch with a different name than the commonly used “iPhone Fold.”
While many leaks and reports have referred to the upcoming foldable device as the iPhone Fold, a fresh claim indicates that Apple could adopt a different branding strategy for the premium smartphone.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg explained that Apple may be moving toward a stronger focus on high-end “Ultra” products.
This shift comes shortly after Apple introduced more affordable products such as the iPhone 17e and the $599 MacBook Neo. According to Gurman, the company is now preparing to emphasise premium offerings as part of its future lineup.
He noted that Apple is planning several high-end devices including next-generation AirPods and a premium MacBook Pro that could feature a touchscreen display.
Gurman also discussed the upcoming foldable iPhone within this “Ultra” product strategy.
According to the report, the foldable device will likely stand out from the rest of the lineup due to its premium features, large display, and significantly higher price.
The device is expected to carry a price tag of around $2,000 and feature a large internal display along with advanced technologies such as in-display sensors.
Because of its positioning as a top-tier device, Apple could ultimately launch it under the name iPhone Ultra rather than iPhone Fold. However, Gurman added that the company could still opt for a more straightforward name, such as “Fold.”
Apart from iPhone Ultra and iPhone Fold, other potential names have also been mentioned in discussions around the device. One such moniker doing rounds in the rumour mills is “iPhone Duo.”
Regardless of the final branding, the foldable iPhone is expected to arrive with a rumoured 7.8-inch crease-free display. The device could also bring back Touch ID integrated into the power button.
If the rumours prove accurate, Apple’s foldable iPhone could become the company’s flagship “Ultra” device when it arrives in 2026.
