Apple’s AI Integration: Camera-Equipped Pendant & AirPods, AI Glasses in Development Phase

Highlights

  • Apple is said to be working on an AI pendant with an always-on camera and features that offer helpful information based on your surroundings.
  • Future AirPods could feature built-in cameras to support AI features, gesture controls, and improved environmental awareness.
  • Apple is also developing lightweight AI smart glasses as part of its growing lineup of wearable devices.

Apple is reportedly developing a new generation of AI-powered wearables that could expand its product range beyond the iPhone, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro.

Several reports say Apple is developing an AI smart pendant with an always-on camera, new AirPods with cameras, and next-generation AI smart glasses as part of its long-term plans for wearables.

These projects are reportedly linked to Apple Intelligence, the company’s expanding AI platform, and aim to create devices that better understand users’ surroundings in real time.

Apple’s AI Pendant Could Work as a Smart Companion

One of the standout products in development is an AI pendant that could connect to the iPhone. Reports say it may have an always-on camera that monitors the environment and sends information to Apple’s AI systems.

The pendant is expected to work like other AI companion devices in the tech industry. Apple is said to be focusing on making it lightweight, privacy-focused, and closely connected with Siri and Apple Intelligence.

The pendant could help with navigation, reminders, recognising objects, and other daily tasks powered by AI, so users won’t need to check their phones as often.

AirPods With Built-In Cameras

Apple is also reportedly testing new AirPods with built-in cameras. According to Bloomberg’s trusted Apple reporter Mark Gurman, the AirPods with built-in cameras are in design validation testing (DVT) stage, and prototypes are being tested internally.

After this, the earbuds will enter production validation testing (PVT) stage, during which early mass-production units are manufactured. Gurman further said that though Apple has almost finalised the hardware, the AirPods might be delayed as the tech giant is not satisfied with the AI experience.

According to earlier reports, the earbuds were initially expected to launch in the first half of this year, but delays tied to the revamped Siri have reportedly pushed the timeline back.

It is expected that Apple might use infrared or environmental cameras in the AirPods to gather spatial awareness data for AI features and gesture-based controls, rather than for traditional photography or videography.

The new AirPods could work with Vision Pro and Apple Intelligence to deliver better spatial audio, recognise the environment, enhance Siri, and provide real-time assistance.

Reports indicate Apple is exploring how these sensors could help AI systems understand what users are seeing or doing, making interactions smoother.

AI Smart Glasses Also in Development

Alongside the pendant and AirPods, Apple is reportedly working on lightweight AI smart glasses. Unlike the larger Vision Pro headset, these glasses are expected to focus on daily use, AI help, notifications, navigation, and context-aware features.

Industry reports say Apple views wearable AI devices as a major growth area and aims to create an ecosystem in which all its devices work seamlessly together.

Apple’s AI Push Raises Privacy Questions

These reports have also started new conversations about privacy and always-on monitoring. Since devices like the AI pendant and camera AirPods can collect data continuously, people are concerned about how Apple will handle visual information and protect user privacy.

Apple has always promoted itself as a privacy-focused company, and analysts expect it to use on-device AI and strict permissions to address these concerns.

While Apple hasn’t officially announced these products, reports say the company is rapidly expanding its AI wearable plans amid global competition in AI hardware.
