iPhone 18 Pro could be months away from launch but that doesn’t stop tech enthusiasts from speculating about what Apple might do new with the upcoming lineup. Fresh colour-related leaks are already surfacing. According to a new report, Apple could finally bring a red finish to its iPhone Pro lineup. Meanwhile, the upcoming iPhone Fold may take a more conservative approach when it comes to colour choices. Here’s what recent reports say.
As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via 9to5Mac), Apple is currently testing a new ‘deep red’ colour option for the iPhone 18 Pro. With the iPhone 17 Pro, Apple shifted to an all-aluminium unibody design, a move that gives the company greater flexibility in experimenting with finishes and colour variants for its Pro models.
Gurman highlights that the existing Cosmic Orange shade has been extremely popular, particularly in China. Despite red and orange being “a little too close on the color wheel,” Apple may still decide to retain both options in the lineup.
Gurman writes, “Given the success of orange, I wouldn’t be surprised if the company keeps that option around and just adds the red as an additional choice. But red and orange might be a little too close on the color wheel to have both. We’ll see how this plays out exactly, but I can at least tell you that, as of now, red is the new flagship color in testing for the next iPhone Pros.”
Just to recall, Apple discontinued red models after the iPhone 14 in 2022.
As for other possible colour options, Gurman addressed rumours suggesting purple and brown finishes for the iPhone 18 Pro. He noted that these shades are likely just “variants of the same red idea.”
In addition to the iPhone 18 Pro, Gurman shared insights about the upcoming iPhone Fold. According to the report, Apple is expected to “stay away” from fun colours for its first foldable iPhone.
“That would mean going back to the options Apple used during the early days of the iPhone: some sort of dark gray or black and a variation of a white or light silver. We’re on track to see how this all comes together in September,” writes Gurman.
The likely reason behind this strategy is manufacturing simplicity. Since this would mark Apple’s first foldable device, limiting colour options could help streamline production. A similar situation occurred with the iPhone X, which launched in just two colours.
As always, these details remain based on early reports, and official confirmation from Apple is still awaited.
