Apple has reportedly placed production line orders for its much-anticipated foldable iPhone. The development was shared on Weibo, claiming that assembly lines have recently received official orders from Apple. If true, this means the device is on track for launch later this year.
According to the leak by a Chinese Weibo tipster named “Fixed Focus Digital”, the production process has revealed specific details about the crease performance of the device’s 7.8-inch inner display. The crease depth is said to be controlled at under 0.15 mm.

Crease depth refers to how deep the visible groove or indentation at the fold appears. A smaller measurement means the fold line is shallower and less noticeable, both visually and when touched.
In addition, the crease angle is reportedly kept below 2.5 degrees. The crease angle measures how sharp the fold line looks when the display is fully unfolded, calculated by the angle formed at the crease area. A lower angle suggests a smoother and flatter transition across the folding section, rather than a pronounced ridge or valley.

However, Apple’s foldable iPhone is expected to feature a new display panel developed by Samsung Electronics that has reportedly never been used in a foldable device before. The panel has been described as being “virtually crease free” and even having “no crease at all.”
Separately, Chinese publication UDN previously reported that Apple had solved “the crease problem” that has affected many foldable smartphones so far. This means that the upcoming foldable iPhone could become the first truly crease-free foldable device on the market.
Reports indicate that the foldable iPhone will include a 7.8-inch primary display when unfolded, along with a 5.5-inch cover display on the outside. The device is expected to adopt a book-style folding design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, rather than a clamshell-style form factor.
Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that Apple’s first foldable iPhone may feature two rear cameras, a single front-facing camera, and an additional selfie camera embedded within the inner display. The device is also expected to integrate Touch ID into the power button. In terms of dimensions, it could measure just 4.5mm thick when unfolded and between 9mm and 9.5mm when folded shut.
Apple is anticipated to unveil the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models in September.
