When iOS 18 arrives later this year, a number of Apple’s built-in iPhone apps could be getting a fresh look and new features.
According to insider Mark Gurman, the company is planning upgrades for its Notes, Mail, Photos, Fitness, and Calculator applications in the next major software update.
Unfortunately, specifics on what these “upgrades” will entail have not been divulged yet.
However, it’s likely we’ll see interface refreshes and added functionality across these apps based on past iOS redesigns and updates.
For instance, Notes may gain enhanced organization tools, multimedia embedding options, and collaboration features.
The Mail app is a prime candidate for an overhaul with a more modern layout. And Photos could be primed for an AI-powered search and editing upgrade.
This wouldn’t be the first time Apple gave its stock apps a coat of fresh paint.
The company routinely revamps some of its pre-installed applications every year with each major new iOS release.
Last year’s iOS 16 brought redesigns for apps like Home, Health, and others.
These individual app tweaks may just be the tip of the iceberg for what Apple has planned in iOS 18.
Gurman reports the update will introduce some fairly substantial design changes across the operating system as a whole, though falling short of the more dramatic visual overhaul seen in iOS 17.
Specifically, he says the new iOS 18 design elements will be more “modular” to facilitate easier updates and customization in the future.
This could potentially allow iOS users more flexibility in placing app icons freely for the first time.
iOS 18 is also expected to showcase Apple’s increased focus on artificial intelligence moving forward.
New AI-driven features are anticipated for core apps and tools like Siri to enhance capabilities like summarization, music playlist creation, and voice interactions.
We’ll have to wait until Apple’s WWDC developer conference in June to get the full official unveiling of iOS 18 and all its new bells and whistles.
But between redesigned apps, UI tweaks, and AI upgrades, it’s shaping up to be one of the company’s biggest iPhone software releases to date.
The iOS 18 update is set to enhance several built-in apps like Notes with better organization tools, Mail with a modernized layout, and Photos with AI-powered search capabilities.
The upcoming iOS 18 is reported to have a more modular design, which will allow for easier updates and more flexibility in app icon placement, enhancing user customization.
Artificial intelligence is expected to be a major component of iOS 18, with improvements aimed at enhancing Siri’s capabilities and adding new features like smarter playlist creation and enhanced summarization tools.
Apple is likely to unveil the full details of iOS 18 at the WWDC developer conference in June, where more information on new features and system upgrades will be provided.
Compatibility details for iOS 18 have not yet been released, but typically, newer iOS versions support recent iPhone models.
More specific information will be available at the WWDC unveiling.
