Apple is gearing up for the launch of the iPhone 17. Ahead of its big event next week, the company is widening its global reach while also facing fresh product leaks. Here’s a quick update on what’s keeping the rumour mill busy.

Apple Expands Social Media Footprint in China

According to the South China Morning Post, Apple has launched a new social media account on Xiaohongshu, also known internationally as RedNote. The timing coincides with Apple’s upcoming product showcase, which is expected to unveil the iPhone 17, 17 Air, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, alongside Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, and possibly AirPods Pro 3.

Apple also joined Threads earlier this year after staying off Meta’s Twitter/X rival for nearly two years. Now, with its official presence on RedNote, Apple is tapping into a platform that became globally recognized when TikTok faced a temporary ban in the U.S.

RedNote lets users in China share content worldwide using international phone numbers and even supports Sign In with Apple.

Apple’s move is already proving effective as the new RedNote account has gained over 200,000 followers since launching on Saturday. Apple has also maintained a long-standing presence on Weibo, where even Tim Cook has an official account.

Meanwhile, Foxconn has reportedly begun small-scale production of the iPhone 17 at its Bengaluru plant, in addition to its existing operations in Chennai.

“Foxconn Bengaluru unit has commenced operation with the production of iPhone 17. This is in addition to the production of iPhone 17 at its Chennai unit,” an ET report noted.

The Bengaluru facility, spread across 300 acres near the airport in Doddaballapur and Devanahalli taluks, was acquired in 2023. It is now Foxconn’s second-largest manufacturing unit after its Longhua factory in China. With an investment of around INR 25,000 crore, the site is expected to reach an annual capacity of 20 million smartphones. The factory began operations last year and is now contributing to iPhone 17 production.

Apple has been heavily reliant on China for iPhone production previously, accounting for approximately 80% of its iPhone production. It is no news that the Cupertino Giant is actively working to diversify its supply chain by shifting some manufacturing to India and other countries.

Apple Leak Reveals Seven Upcoming Devices Beyond iPhones

Just weeks before Apple’s September event, internal identifiers spotted by MacRumors have revealed details about several products in development across major categories. Here’s a look at Apple’s broader product roadmap stretching into 2025 and 2026 –

  • HomePod mini (B525) – Expected to feature the T8310 architecture from recent Apple Watches, offering a dual-core CPU and Neural Engine for better performance and audio compared to the S5 chip in the current version.
  • Apple TV – May upgrade from the A15 to the A17 Pro chip, delivering improved gaming, AI capabilities, and potentially Apple’s in-house Wi-Fi and Bluetooth silicon.
  • Studio Display 2 (J427, J527) – References suggest a switch to mini-LED technology, with a likely launch around 2026 alongside M5-powered Macs.
  • iPad mini – Set to join the A19 Pro chip family, with potential OLED updates coming closer to 2026.
  • Entry-Level iPad – Could receive an A18 chip refresh in spring 2025, adding Apple Intelligence support while keeping its design and affordability intact.
  • Vision Pro 2 – Linked to the M5 chip, the next-gen headset may retain most hardware features but offer a redesigned strap for comfort, with a possible release in late 2025.
  • Apple Watch Series 11, Ultra 3, SE 3 – All tipped to run on the S11 chip, based on the same architecture as the S9 and S10. Major performance boosts may not arrive until future generations.
