There have been speculations about what Apple might be planning for the next-generation iPhone Air after a lukewarm response to the slim phone this year. We even report that the Cupertino giant might be taking on a more challenging task and working on an even slimmer phone for next year. But denying all these murmurs, we are now hearing that Apple has, in fact, delayed the release of the iPhone Air 2.
A new report from The Information now reveals Apple has “notified engineers and suppliers that they were taking the next iPhone Air off the schedule without providing a new release date,” citing three individuals involved in the project. Here’s what we know based on recent words.
The second-generation iPhone Air was originally expected to debut next fall alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold. As per the report, Apple’s plan for the device included a lighter design, a larger battery, and the introduction of the vapour chamber cooling system that first appeared in the iPhone 17 Pro.

A separate supply chain rumour from last week also hinted that the iPhone Air 2 might have featured a dual-camera setup, offering a notable upgrade over its predecessor.
However, those plans appear to be uncertain now. While Apple has not cancelled the iPhone Air 2 project entirely, The Information notes that some engineers and manufacturing partners are “still working on it.” Despite that, the company’s decision to remove the device from its roadmap is described as “rare if not unprecedented.”
The report attributes the delay to lower-than-expected sales of the first-generation iPhone Air. Manufacturing partner Foxconn has reportedly “dismantled all but one and a half of its production lines for the first version and expects to halt all production by the end of the month.”
Meanwhile, another iPhone Air production partner Luxshare stopped manufacturing the model at the end of October.

With the iPhone Air 2 now off schedule, Apple is reportedly set to launch three models next fall. These most likely will include the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Fold. The base iPhone 18 and the iPhone 18e are expected to follow in spring 2027.
Despite the uncertainty, there’s still a chance for the iPhone Air 2 to make a comeback. The Information adds, “It’s possible the product is undergoing a significant redesign, and one person said Apple could still release the second-generation iPhone Air as soon as spring 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and budget-friendly 18e.”
Apple has not officially commented on the delay. If true, the decision highlights the company’s shifting focus as it prepares for major changes in its iPhone lineup.
Answer. No, Apple hasn’t cancelled it entirely, but the device has been removed from the release roadmap with no new launch date shared.
