Airtel discontinues Rs 49 pack, raises minimum prepaid plan to Rs 79

Telecom major Airtel today announced the revision to its prepaid plans and a price hike for its entry-level plans. It has discontinued the Rs 49 entry-level prepaid recharge and raised the minimum prepaid plan to Rs 79.

”Airtel has discontinued its Rs 49 entry-level prepaid recharge. The company’s prepaid packs will now start from the Rs 79 smart recharge and offer up to four times more outgoing minutes of usage to customers along with double data. This change is in line with the company’s focus on offering superior connectivity solutions. Airtel customers on entry-level recharges can now stay connected for longer without worrying about their account balance,” the telco said in a statement.

The Rs 79 plan comes with a validity of 28 days, includes a talk time of 64 and brings 200 MB of data. The plan offers up to four times more outgoing minutes of usage to customers along with double data. The revision of the plan is effective from July 29.

The telco in May announced offering a recharge pack of Rs 49 for free to as many as 5.5 crore low-income customers to help them stay connected during the pandemic. It said that the scheme worth Rs 270 crore is covering credit of Rs 49 mobile plan for 5.5 crore low-income group customers. The Rs 49 pack offered users 100 MB of data and Rs 38 worth of talk time with a validity of 28 days.

Last week, Airtel came up with new postpaid plans for retail users as well as corporate customers.
