OnePlus May Stop Launching Compact Phones in the Future; Here’s Why

Highlights

  • OnePlus may stop launching small phones in the future.
  • OnePlus 15T remains the latest OnePlus’ compact smartphone.
  • The move could mean OnePlus wants to focus on larger device smartphones.

OnePlus has reportedly decided to stop the development of upcoming small-screen devices. The move could upset OnePlus fans, as the company may not be releasing a direct replacement to its current lineup anytime soon. If the rumour is true, customers who prefer smaller phones may not have many high-performance choices in the coming months. OnePlus’ latest model in this segment is the OnePlus 15T, which was officially unveiled on March 24.

Why OnePlus Is Moving Away From Compact Smartphones

Brands are finding it difficult to market and make money on smaller phones. Making a compact phone means squeezing top-tier hardware like big battery cells, smart heat dissipation systems and several camera lenses into a very compact area. At the same time, most buyers globally choose bigger screens to view movies, play intensive mobile games and multitask. Sales for smaller phones are a small part of the entire market, so it seems OnePlus is focusing its efforts on bigger screens that appeal to the large customer base.

OnePlus’ Previous Compact Phone Plans and Models

OnePlus launched the OnePlus 15T as a “Dream Phone” for those who refuse to compromise on performance for size. The 15T model is packed with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 CPU, and it demonstrated that a smaller phone could handle serious gaming and heavy multitasking. It represents the brand’s main effort to establish an uncompromising, pocket-friendly flagship.

OnePlus’ Previous Compact Phones

Following the OnePlus 13T model, the OnePlus 15T comes with a 6.32-inch flat display with super slim bezels (1.1 mm) and a total width of only 71.82 mm. It is powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 CPU with up to 16GB of RAM. It has a 7,500mAh silicon-carbon battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging capabilities. It comes with a dual 50MP rear camera system with a 16MP front camera.

Small phones occupy a special niche in the smartphone market, as they are convenient to use with one hand and easily fit into pockets and small bags. Also, they prevent hand strain from long typing and browsing sessions. Compact flagships offer high-end speed, great cameras and fast charging without the bulkiness for users that don’t want a heavy device.

What This Could Mean for OnePlus Smartphone Buyers

Buyers who prefer compact phones for daily usage may have fewer options from OnePlus now. But, they can go for the existing phones like OnePlus 15T for easy handling and smooth usage.
