Apple has launched the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max bringing upgrades in performance, cameras, battery life and AI capabilities. The two 18 Series models were among the first products unveiled at Apple’s big event today. While the new models continue with the same overall design introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series, Apple has made some changes to the rear design and added new colour options. Here’s everything you must know about these new iPhones.
Apple iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max – Key Features
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max retain the Dynamic Island but Apple has made it smaller on the new models. The updated Dynamic Island can also display up to three Live Activities at the same time, making it easier to keep track of multiple ongoing activities.
Apple is also positioning the iPhone 18 Pro as its ultimate AI-focused smartphone. The phones feature a second Neural Engine along with several other improvements designed to boost AI-related performance.
Powering the iPhone 18 Pro series is Apple’s new A20 Pro chip. It is built using a 2nm manufacturing process and features a 6-core CPU with two performance-focused super cores and four efficiency cores. The chip also includes a 7-core GPU, which Apple says delivers 40 percent faster graphics performance. The Neural Engine has been upgraded to 32 cores, while memory bandwidth has increased by 50 percent.
Apple has also focused on keeping performance stable over longer periods. The A20 Pro is directly connected to a vapor chamber allowing heat to be moved away from the chip more effectively. The next-generation vapor chamber is designed to help the iPhone 18 Pro maintain high performance during demanding tasks.
Battery life is another major focus of the new Pro models. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro matches the battery life of the iPhone 17 Pro Max, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max can deliver up to 30 hours of battery life. Wired charging has also been improved, although Apple has not provided further charging details in the information shared so far.
iPhone 18 Pro Series Gets a Variable Aperture Camera
The camera system receives one of the biggest upgrades on the iPhone 18 Pro series. The 48MP Fusion main camera now features a variable aperture, and this feature is available on both the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max rather than being exclusive to the larger Max model.

The variable aperture allows the camera to narrow the aperture when needed, which can provide a better depth of field. Apple has also improved Night mode with night shots now being captured faster while offering better image quality.
The Camera app gets new Pro controls as well. Users can customise the camera interface and access more manual controls, including the ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed themselves. A new Smart Focus mode is designed to make it easier for the camera to lock onto a subject. Photographic Styles have also become more advanced with new texture controls and additional options for adjusting the look of photos.
Apple has introduced another interesting camera-related feature called Apple Reference Image. The feature is designed to help prove that a photo is authentic and has not been generated by AI.
It works by adding metadata to an image and storing a reference image alongside the edits made to the photo. This means the original source material can be checked and verified even after edits have been applied.
iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max – Price and Availability
Apple will open pre-orders for the new iPhone 18 Pro models on September 12, while the official launch and sales will begin on September 18.
The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 and is available with up to 2TB of storage for the first time. The iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299, which is a $100 increase compared with the iPhone 17 Pro models.
In India, iPhone 18 Pro starts at INR164900 and iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at INR179900.
As for colours, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are available in four finishes, which are Black, Light Blue, Glacier (Silver) and Burgundy (Red).
Apple is also launching AppleCare One Family in the US, giving customers another option for covering their Apple devices.
