Design and Build
OnePlus has kept the design of the N6 clean and practical. The phone features a square-shaped rear camera module that sits neatly on the back without protruding too much. It gives the phone a tidy look while also preventing any wobbling when placed on a flat surface.
We had the Fresh Mint colour variant for this review and its matte finish on the rear panel does a good job of resisting fingerprints and smudges. The finish helps in keeping the phone look clean even after extended use.
The OnePlus N6 feels surprisingly comfortable to hold despite holding a massive 8,000mAh battery. It has a compact feel in the hand that it is easier to use than you might expect. While the phone is on the heavier side at 224g, the weight is distributed well so it never feels awkward or excessively top-heavy during daily use.
Durability is one area where the OnePlus N6 stands out. It comes with MIL-STD-810H military-grade certification. Brand claims it has been tested to withstand accidental drops, extreme temperatures ranging from 65°C to -60°C, rain, freezing conditions, salt corrosion and sand and dust exposure. OnePlus has also included its ArmorShell Protection system that combines reinforced corners, airbag cushioning, strengthened glass and a reinforced aluminium frame to improve drop resistance.
The phone also has an IP65 rating for dust and water resistance. It isn’t designed for underwater use but it should comfortably handle dust, splashes, and light rain without any issues.
Overall, the OnePlus N6 offers a practical design with a strong focus on durability.
Display and Multimedia Experience
OnePlus N6 comes with a decently large 6.75-inch HD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Right out of the box, we do think this display delivers a fairly enjoyable viewing experience for its price.
The refresh rate makes everyday tasks like scrolling through social media, browsing the web, and navigating the interface feel smooth and responsive. While it may not be the sharpest display in its segment because of the HD+ resolution, it gets the job done and should be a good experience for most users.
OnePlus claims a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits in High Brightness Mode. And we tested the display outdoors to notice that the screen remains comfortably visible even when you’re outdoors. Under direct sunlight, it does struggle but nothing that can hinder your usage. Colours look vibrant and the display is good for watching YouTube videos, OTT content, casual gaming and everyday media consumption.
The punch-hole design also helps create a more immersive viewing experience. Although, the noticeably thick chin at the bottom does remind you that this is a budget smartphone. It isn’t something that ruins the experience but it does stand out. Still, considering the price point, it’s not really a deal-breaker and is easy to overlook after a while.
The phone’s stereo speaker setup supports for 400% Ultra Volume. The larger acoustic chamber gets the speakers impressively loud without sounding too distorted at higher volume levels. The audio output is clear and loud enough for most situations.
After using the phone for more than a week, we can definitely say that although it may not have fancy display specs that sound great on paper. But it is surely a solid choice for users who spend a lot of time watching videos and are looking for a phone in budget.
Hardware and Performance
OnePlus N6 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6360 Apex chipset and overall it offers a smooth everyday use experience. We used the phone as a primary device for almost a week and it was mostly smooth sailing. It handles routine tasks like browsing the web, switching between multiple apps, scrolling through social media or streaming videos without any noticeable hiccups. Multitasking is also well managed and it a dependable option for daily use. However, opening too many apps all at once could throw off the phone for a while.
In our testing, the phone performed well across most benchmark platforms, which reflects its capable hardware.
Casual and even moderately demanding games run comfortably and gaming at medium graphics settings shouldn’t be a problem for this device. OnePlus has also equipped the N6 with a large 5,300mm² vapour chamber cooling system that does a good job of keeping temperatures under control during extended gaming sessions or while streaming videos for long periods.
The phone stays reasonably cool in normal usage and we didn’t notice any significant signs of thermal throttling under moderate workloads.
On the software front, the device runs OxygenOS 16 out of the box. The interface feels familiar, fluid, and easy to navigate with plenty of customisation options that OxygenOS users have come to expect. OnePlus has also promised two major Android OS updates and three years of security updates which is reassuring for buyers planning to use the phone for a few years.
There are quite a few pre-installed apps out of the box and the interface after initial setup feels a bit cluttered. Thankfully, many of these apps can be uninstalled or disabled and once that’s done, the overall software experience remains clean.
Camera Performance
The OnePlus N6 comes with a 50MP primary rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and selfies are handled by an 8MP front-facing camera. We have to keep the price in mind and that makes the camera performance is quite decent especially in favourable lighting conditions.
During the day, the primary camera captures natural looking photos with good colours and balanced contrast. OnePlus has avoided excessive image processing, which helps the pictures retain a more realistic look instead of appearing overly saturated or artificially sharpened. Details are good enough for everyday photography and the camera is reliable for capturing landscapes, people and pictures ready for social media.

You are also not getting any dedicated sensors here and we did miss some versatility in the camera setup.

The OnePlus N6 performs better when it comes to video recording. It supports 1080p video recording at up to 60fps alongwith 720p slow-motion recording at 120fps and 1080p time-lapse videos at 30fps.
Videos come out clear and crisp with good colour reproduction, making the phone a dependable option for casual content creation. In fact, N6 is a good choice for its price if you’re someone who regularly shoots reels, short videos, or daily vlogs for social media.
OnePlus has also included several software camera features including Dual-View Video, Cinematic Video, AI Portrait Glow, AI Perfect Shot, AI Eraser, AI Unblur, AI Reflection Eraser, AI Reframe, AI Detail Boost, and support for up to 10x digital zoom. Some of these AI features are more useful than others although they do add extra flexibility for users who like editing or enhancing their photos directly on the phone.
Overall, the OnePlus N6 offers a capable camera experience for everyday use.
Battery Performance and Charging
Probably the biggest highlight of OnePlus N6 is its massive battery capacity. The phone packs a massive 8,000mAh battery and it is easily more than a day worth of power on a full charge. In fact, the phone for us comfortably lasted close to three days on a single charge with moderate usage that includes calling, messaging, social media, streaming and a bit of gaming. Even heavy users are unlikely to look for the charger before the end of the second day.
The battery supports 45W SUPERVOOC fast charging. Now, the charging speed isn’t the fastest in the segment but it is a reasonable. It took us around 1.45 minutes to fully charge the device. The phone also comes with several battery focused features that improve both convenience and long-term battery health.
Moreover, OnePlus N6 also supports 6.5W reverse wired charging and can double up as a power bank.
The standout battery feature is the phone’s claimed battery longevity. OnePlus says the battery is rated for up to 1,600 complete charge cycles and is designed to retain more than 80 percent of its original capacity even after seven years of usage.
The phone also features a four-layer charging safety system that protects against overcharging, accidental drops, flat compression, and extreme temperatures. The charging system is also designed to operate safely in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 56°C.
Verdict – Should You Buy OnePlus N6?
OnePlus N6 is entering the Indian market as the most affordable smartphone in the OnePlus lineup. After using the phone for almost a week, we can say it is definitely a well-rounded budget smartphone that gets the basics right while placing a strong emphasis on battery life and durability.
Its biggest strengths are the massive 8,000mAh battery, dependable day-to-day performance, sturdy build quality, and a smooth 120Hz display. The cameras also perform well in good lighting, while video recording is surprisingly capable for the price.
If your priorities are long battery life, reliable everyday performance, durable design and clean software experience with long term battery health, the OnePlus N6 is an easy recommendation.
