Meta is expanding its push into artificial intelligence with a new AI assistant for Facebook Dating. It is aimed at making it easier for users to find matches that better reflect their preferences. The update comes alongside a new feature called Meet Cute, designed to reduce the fatigue of endless swiping.
AI Dating Assistant on Facebook Dating
Announced in a Meta blog, the new Dating Assistant acts as a chatbot within Facebook Dating, offering personalised guidance to users as they search for potential partners. It allows people to go beyond standard filters like height or education, enabling more specific and creative prompts.
For example, Meta suggests users could ask it to find “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or even request help in refining their dating profile.
Beyond matchmaking, the assistant can also recommend dating ideas and offer tips to improve user profiles. To access the tool, users can head to the Matches tab within Facebook Dating.
Meta confirmed that the feature will roll out gradually in the US and Canada.
Meet Cute for Facebook Dating
Meta is also launching Meet Cute, a feature that delivers users a weekly surprise match chosen through Facebook Dating’s personalised algorithm. This option is aimed at reducing indecision and “helping people avoid swipe fatigue.”

Users can choose to chat with their surprise match or unmatch to skip the conversation. At launch, Meet Cute will provide matches once per week, though Meta says it is exploring more frequent options in the future. Importantly, users can opt out of the feature at any time.
Facebook Dating’s Growth and Dating App Competition
In the announcement blog, Meta reports that Facebook Dating matches among adults aged 18 to 29 have grown 10% year-over-year. Hundreds of thousands of new profiles are created each month in this age group.
However, Facebook Dating still trails far behind competitors such as Tinder, which boasts around 50 million daily active users, while Hinge has about 10 million.
The integration of AI tools into dating apps has become increasingly common. Startups like Sitch are using AI to stand out, while major players are investing heavily. Match Group, the parent company of Tinder, Hinge, and OkCupid, partnered with OpenAI last year as part of a $20 million-plus investment in AI. Despite Match Group’s financial struggles, its stock price has fallen nearly 68% over the past five years. The company has already introduced AI-powered tools like a photo selector for Tinder and AI-assisted profile prompts for Hinge.
