Google’s latest Pixel 10 series was unveiled two days ago, but new features are still being revealed. One of the most interesting updates comes through a partnership with WhatsApp. Here’s more on that.

Google Pixel 10 Series – WhatsApp Satellite Calls

Google Pixel 10 has partnered with WhatsApp to allow voice and video calls via satellite connectivity, launching first as an exclusive for Pixel devices.

The announcement was shared on X (formerly Twitter) through the official Made by Google handle, followed by a witty response from WhatsApp’s account. A teaser video shows a Pixel device receiving a WhatsApp call while in satellite mode.

From August 28, when the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL officially go on sale, WhatsApp will support Google’s satellite network for calls even in remote areas without traditional cellular coverage.

However, the fine print makes it clear that the feature will depend on participating carriers, may include extra charges, and will only work outdoors under an open sky. Google also notes that performance may be slower compared to standard mobile networks.

Google Pixel 10 Series Wireless Charging Details

Alongside satellite calling, Google has also confirmed the Qi2 wireless charging standard on the Pixel 10 lineup, though with some caveats. While the Pixel 10 Pro XL supports the latest Qi 2.2 standard with magnets and up to 25W charging speeds, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold are limited to Qi 2.0.1, a version introduced back in 2023.

Qi2 was first introduced with the Magnetic Power Profile (MPP), offering improved alignment and efficiency. Later versions brought incremental upgrades:

• Qi 2.0 – Introduced MPP with backwards compatibility
• Qi 2.1 – Added support for magnetic cases and obstruction testing
• Qi 2.2 – Increased charging capacity up to 25W with better power management

Interestingly, most Android phones skipped early Qi2 versions with Apple’s iPhones and Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series among the first major adopters. Google’s Pixel 10 series marks a more mainstream rollout of Qi2 with magnets, but only the Pro XL gets the faster charging capability.

For users, this difference may not matter much since all models still support 15W wireless charging and remain compatible with existing Qi chargers. Google explained to Android Central that the lack of 25W charging on the smaller models is due to heat management issues. Notably, the Qi 2.0.1 version is the same one Apple uses on its latest iPhones.
