For 2024’s ‘Foldable Summer’ and beyond, the Android foldable market continues to expand.
This marks the second consecutive year of numerous new releases during the summer months.
Motorola is set to launch its next generation of Razr foldables on June 25 ie tomorrow.
The company plans to release successors to both the Razr+ and Razr (2023).
The flagship model is expected to feature a telephoto camera, an improved cover display, and upgraded specs.
The more affordable Razr is likely to adopt a full-size cover display, a significant improvement over its predecessor.
These devices are expected to be marketed as Razr 50 and 50 Ultra internationally, with pricing likely to remain similar to previous models.
Will the new Moto Razr series be as influential this time around as it was last time?
We guess that will majorly depend on local players in the region and competitive pricing.
Time will tell what exactly Motorola has in store for all foldable fans.
Samsung’s next foldables, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6, are rumoured to launch on July 10, alongside new smartwatches and the Galaxy Ring.
As of right now, while Samsung hasn’t officially confirmed this date, numerous leaks point to it.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is anticipated to be the first major redesign of Samsung’s book-style foldable in three generations, featuring a new aspect ratio both inside and out.
In contrast, the Galaxy Z Flip 6 appears to be largely similar to the Flip 5, with improvements mainly in battery capacity and other minor tweaks.
The reports from the rumour mill have not been super promising in terms of the hardware specs that we can expect.
Of course, Samsung will be furnishing the entire lineup with its suite of Galaxy AI offerings.
Even so, fans looking for a major boost in new features from a specifications perspective might be dealt a poor hand.
Unlike last year, two significant releases have been delayed.
The sequel to the Pixel Fold, reportedly called the “Pixel 9 Pro Fold”, is expected to launch in the fall (around October) alongside the rest of the Pixel 9 series.
Several other foldable devices are on the horizon.
Honor recently announced the Magic V Flip in China and is due to launch a new book-style device, though global releases for these are unlikely in the near future.
Huawei might at some point also release a successor but again details remain scarce and a global launch will be highly unlikely.
Blackview showcased a flip phone at MWC, which is expected to be more widely available for purchase in the coming months.
Although it is not a mainstream OEM, the device does pack in a decent amount of specs to interest potential buyers.
The OnePlus Open, widely regarded as one of the best foldables of last year, is not expected to see a successor until early 2025.
Consequently, Oppo is also unlikely to launch new Find N or Find N Flip foldables until next year.
A big blow for fans hoping for a reasonably good upgrade this year.
With some manufacturers pushing forward with summer releases while others opt for later launch windows, we are bound to see a lot of announcements this year.
This staggered approach provides consumers with a variety of options throughout the year, as the technology behind foldable devices continues to mature and improve.
The Motorola Razr 50 and 50 Ultra are set to launch on June 25, with improvements in camera, display, and overall specs.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 are rumoured to be launching on July 10, potentially alongside new smartwatches and the Galaxy Ring.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is rumoured to feature a major redesign, while the Flip 6 will have minor improvements like increased battery capacity.
The Pixel 9 Pro Fold is expected to launch in October alongside the rest of the Pixel 9 series.
Other anticipated releases include Honor’s Magic V Flip, Huawei’s potential new foldable, Blackview’s flip phone, and OnePlus Open’s successor expected in early 2025.
