Elon Musk’s X platform (formerly Twitter) has made a surprising move to take on video streaming giants like YouTube.
The social media company is set to launch its own smart TV app that will allow users to watch videos on the big screen.
We say surprising, but in the larger context of things, Musk had promised to make X into a super app and this seems like one of the steps taken in that direction.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, shared details about the upcoming TV app this week.
She stated that the app will offer high-resolution video streaming and will feature a user interface similar to YouTube, making it easy for people to navigate.
The app’s interface teaser video suggests that X’s TV service will have a trending video algorithm to help users stay updated on popular content tailored to their interests.
Also, there will inevitably be some incorporation of artificial intelligence (AI)–powered topic organization, allowing videos to be categorized by subject for a personalized viewing experience.
Apart from that, high on the list of expectations is an enhanced video search function to help users find desired content more efficiently.
Yaccarino mentioned that the TV app will be compatible across devices, enabling seamless viewing on both smartphones and smart TVs.
The plan is to make the app widely available and compatible with most smart TV models soon.
For many users who are constantly being plagued by the ad-fatigue in modern-day OTT services, there is remarkably some respite on the way.
The X TV app’s launch will not initially feature advertisements.
X has stated that their focus is on introducing this new feature for consumers first, but they intend to monetize it through advertising in the future.
The TV app’s release date is still uncertain, as Yaccarino encouraged X users to share their ideas and feedback while the app is still in development.
By launching its own video streaming service, X aims to position itself as a “video-first platform” and attract more creators to share content on the platform.
It’s no secret that X is struggling to be profitable since Elon Musk’s takeover last year.
Perhaps this new feature could sooth some troubled waters, although nothing can be said for sure.
The X TV Streaming Service is a new app by X platform that offers high-resolution video streaming on smart TVs, with an interface designed to be user-friendly and similar to YouTube.
The app includes AI-powered topic organization to categorize videos and an enhanced search function, making it easier for users to find and enjoy content tailored to their preferences.
Initially, the X TV app will launch without advertisements, focusing on user experience. However, plans to include ads in the future are in place as part of the platform’s monetization strategy.
The app will be compatible with most smart TV models and can also be accessed on smartphones, ensuring a seamless viewing experience across different devices.
The launch date for the X TV app is still to be announced. X platform is currently inviting user feedback during its development phase to refine and improve the app before release.
