Smartphones Getting Cheaper in July ? Read to Know How You Can Save Your Money

On social media, information has a way of morphing into something that is misleading.

Recently, the Ministry of Finance tweeted an image containing a table that shows the tax that electronic goods, including smartphones, attract in India. 

In all the cases cited in the table, it is shown that the tax is reduced.

The claim is that the government has reduced the GST on gadgets from July 1 and that soon phones, TVs, refrigerators etc will become. The claim is totally wrong.

At the time of the implementation of ST, the government set a 12 per cent tax on mobile phones.

From April 1, 2020, the Government of India increased GST on smartphones to 18 per cent. But, it never went 31.3%.

During Budget 2023,government reduced GST on mobile phones it came down to 12 per cent.

New GST rate has still not come into effect which means that the price of the smartphone hasn't changed.

The phone prices will not reduce anytime soon.
