The move comes as the company continues to face challenges in implementing under-display technology, which could delay the arrival of a completely full-screen iPhone. A post by Weibo user Wang Tengxiao claims that the iPhone 18 Pro lineup will retain the pill-shaped cutout that houses the TrueDepth camera and Face ID system, but in a more compact form. Meanwhile, the standard iPhone 18 models are expected to remain unchanged. Leaked images of a screen protector indicate that the cutout size could shrink to around 13.49mm, compared to approximately 20.76mm on current models. This reduction may be achieved by shifting certain Face ID components such as the flood illuminator, beneath the display while preserving overall functionality. The latest report adds to earlier mixed claims, where some leaks suggested a hole-punch design while others pointed towards a smaller Dynamic Island. The current information supports a gradual design evolution rather than a complete shift. Another tipster, Ice Universe, has suggested that the entire iPhone 18 lineup could adopt a smaller central cutout, while bezel sizes are expected to remain unchanged. However, this differs slightly from Wang’s claim, which limits the change to Pro models. Both sources agree that Apple is unlikely to introduce major design changes to the bezels. Expected Specs and Launch Timeline The iPhone 18 Pro series, including the iPhone 18 Pro Max, is expected to feature Apple’s advanced 2nm A20 Pro chip. Samsung Display is likely to be the first to respond, with plans to produce 220 PPI OLED samples using its Quantum Dot OLED (QD-OLED) production lines. These samples are expected to be delivered to Apple in the second half of 2026. This would mark a significant improvement over the 160 PPI QD-OLED panels currently used in monitors.
