HIGHLIGHTS * Vivo has launched the Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip foldable smartphones in China * The Vivo X Flip is the first-of-its-kind clamshell foldable from the company * Vivo X Fold 2 is the first foldable to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip foldable smartphones have been launched in China. The Vivo X Flip foldable smartphone is the flip smartphone from the Chinese smartphone maker. The Vivo X Fold 2 packs in a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC while the Vivo X Flip gets the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. Both devices come equipped with a 120Hz AMOLED display and a 50MP camera with a V2 imaging chip. Vivo X Fold 2, Vivo X Flip Price, Availability * The Vivo X Fold 2 has been priced at CNY 8999 (~ Rs 1,07,455) for the 12GB + 256GB variant while the 12GB + 512GB variant has been priced at CNY 9999 (~ Rs 1,19,400) * The Vivo X Flip in its 12GB + 256GB guise will be available for CNY 5999 (- Rs 71,640) while the 12GB + 512GB variant will be offered for CNY 6699 (~ Rs 80,000). * The Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip foldable smartphone is currently being made available only in China and plans for their global debut are still under wraps. Vivo X Fold 2, Vivo X Flip Specifications, Features The Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip are Vivo’s foldable offerings for 2023 and get high-end hardware features to go along with its flagship positioning. The Vivo X Fold 2 has also become the first foldable smartphone to get the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset to power it. * Display: The Vivo X Fold 2 feature an 8.03-inch E6 AMOLED LTPO display with a 2160 x 1916 pixels resolution with up to 120Hz refresh rate. The display is HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certified and offers up to 1800nits brightness. The Vivo X Flip on the other hand gets a 6.74-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz high refresh rate. * Processor: The Vivo X Fold 2 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset while the Vivo X Flip 2 gets the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. * RAM and storage: Both devices get an option for 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of fast internal storage. * OS: The Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip devices ship with Android 13 with OriginOS 3 on top. * Rear camera: The Vivo Fold 2 gets a 50MP (f/1.75) main sensor, 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto camera. The Vivo X Flip on the other hand uses the same main camera but drops the telephoto shooter. The main sensors are optically stabilised. * Front camera: The Vivo Fold 2 gets a 16MP sensor while the Vivo X Flip gets a 32MP shooter. * Rear panel: Both devices sport a textured back finish fitted on a metal chassis build. * Battery: The Vivo X Fold 2 gets a 4,800mAh battery pack with 120W fast charging and 50W wireless charging support. The Vivo X Flip gets a 4,400mAh battery with 44W fast charging. * Colours: The Vivo X Fold 2 is being made available in Shadow Black, China Red and Azure Blue colour options. The Vivo X Flip can be had in Diamond Black, Purple and Silk Gold colour options. Vivo X Fold 2, Vivo X Flip Competitors The Vivo X Fold 2 and Vivo X Flip foldable smartphones will face competition from the likes of Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. Vivo X Fold 2 Display The X Fold2 features world’s first 8.03″ 2K+ internal and 6.53″ 1080p external E6 AMOLED LTPO screens with 120Hz refresh rate. The 8.03-inch super large screen when unfolded. The screen has SCHOTT UTG glass cover and supports 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner on the inside and outside. Vivo X Fold 2 Design It also has a new ultra-durable and lightweight hinge uses vivo’s self-developed FS54 aviation-grade material, which has higher strength and lighter weight, and has passed the Rheinland 40W fold-free worry-free test. The water drop hinge’s diameter is now 5mm compared to 4.6mm in the X Fold and X Fold+. Compared with the previous generation, the thickness and weight have been reduced by 2mm and 33g, respectively. The hinge parts of X Fold 2 is reduced by 83 compared with the previous generation, and the hinge weight is reduced by 30%. The folding life of the new machine is 33% higher than that of the previous generation, and can achieve a folding life of 400,000 times, said the company. Vivo X Fold 2 Performance It is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC with 12GB of RAM, and the company says that it has scored 1.348 million points on AnTuTu. The phone has industry’s exclusive new-generation SPU security chip, which can provide comprehensive security and privacy protection. The X Fold2 has, 2448 mm² industry’s largest VC liquid cooling heat dissipation area, the company added. Vivo X Fold 2 Camera It has a 50MP rear cameras with VCS bionic spectrum technology developed by vivo and Sony that reduces noise by 20%, and increases color reproduction ability by 15%. There is Zeiss T* coating for the lens. There is vivo’s self-developed imaging chip V2. When shooting night scenes, the brightness is significantly increased, and uses extreme noise reduction, so the highlights are not exposed, and the dark parts have details, according to vivo. The phone packs a 4800mAh battery, and it is the world’s first foldable phone to feature 120W wired fast charging that can charge up to 100% in 26 minutes, and the phone also comes with 50W wireless charging.
