HIGHLIGHTS * Twitter creators can now start getting their share of the company’s ad revenue. * This is applicable only for Twitter Blue individuals and organisations. * Twitter has started paying eligible creators, and reportedly up to $40,000 (around Rs 32.8 lakh). Elon Musk has been making some big changes ever since he took over Twitter. There have been some not-so-happy changes but one that will benefit users has begun. Earlier this year in February, Musk announced that creators will be able to start earning money through ads on Twitter. It looks like the payout has started for some creators. Twitter has launched its ad-revenue-sharing program for creators, and eligible Blue subscribers have already started receiving payments. Elon Musk first announced this initiative in February, but at the time, very few details were available about how it would work. As per a tweet announcing the program, those eligible will receive a portion of the ad revenue generated from their posts, starting with replies. Several high-profile users have reported receiving notifications about incoming deposits, claiming to a few thousands to ten thousand dollars. These rewards are based on ads shown in replies to eligible users' content. The first round of payouts for creators will amount to $5 million, as per Musk, and will be cumulative from February from now on. Twitter starts paying creators for ads The monetisation system is a little different from other platforms though. Here, creators have to be subscribed to Twitter Blue to be eligible for the revenue sharing system. Twitter Blue costs Rs 900 per month on mobile, and Rs 650 on the web. You can also get an annual subscription that costs Rs 6,800 per year. With Twitter Blue, you get the verified blue tick and other features. How to join Twitter’s monetisation program? * As mentioned above, you will need to be subscribed to Twitter Blue to join the monetisation program. In addition to being subscribed to Twitter Blue, you will also need to have at least 5 million impressions on posts in each of the last three months. * At present, Twitter’s ad revenue sharing system is available only in countries where Stripe supports payouts. Twitter hasn’t clarified about countries where Stripe isn’t available. * It will most likely partner with the payment services available in whichever country it wants to launch the monetisation program. What's the revenue sharing criteria for Twitter creators According to the support post, the revenue-sharing system is only available for Twitter Blue or Verified Organizations subscribers who have generated at least five million post impressions in each of the past three months. Additionally, users will be subjected to a human review and must follow the Creator Subscriptions policies before getting paid through a Stripe account. Those who meet the requirements can apply for the program by going to the Monetization section in their account settings, and there will soon be an application process as it plans to expand eligibility to more creators. There are certain limitations as well on which creators can earn money through its content monetization program. Sexual content is not allowed to be monetized in accordance with Twitter's standards. The monetization of content related to pyramid schemes, get-rich-quick schemes, violence, criminal activities, gambling, drugs, and alcohol is also prohibited. Additionally, if a creator attempts to monetize copyrighted content that they do not own, it is considered a violation. The payouts come at a time when Twitter is facing challenges left and right. It has been sued for 500 million unpaid severance checks, and then Zuckerberg-owned Meta has been trying to dent Twitter's declining traffic. How does the revenue payout work? Twitter Blue subscribers can now start earning money through ads that come up in tweet replies. The company announced that creators will start getting payouts through shares from the company’s ad revenue that has been generated from tweet replies. So basically, your tweets will need to go viral and have enough engagement to generate ad revenue. Only then would you start receiving payments from Twitter. Twitter is paying up to $40,000 for accounts that have a few million followers, according to a report by The Verge. It’s starting with a small group who will be invited to accept payment. Twitter plans to roll out the program to more creators later this month. Twitter’s monetisation is applicable for verified organisations as well. Faqs 1) What is Twitter ad revenue sharing? Ans) Twitter ad revenue sharing is the latest feature added to the platform that helps creators get a share of Twitter’s revenue from the sponsored posts appearing under their tweets. Through this initiative, verified creators can receive a portion of the money made by adverts that are shown in comments on their posts. Although it’s not immediately obvious how reimbursements are calculated or how much money Twitter keeps for itself, accounts must have received at least 5 million impressions on tweets in the previous three months in order to be eligible. Conservative YouTuber Benny Johnson announced that he was qualified to get close to $10,000; @Elon_alerts, an account that tweets about Musk, stated that their compensation was roughly $2,200. Payouts are cumulative going back to February, when the initiative was first introduced, according to Musk in a tweet. “For the next 12 months, Twitter will keep none of the money. You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70% for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30%) and ~92% on web (could be better, depending on payment processor),” tweeted Musk. 2) Does Twitter creator monetization? Ans) Finally, Twitter is introducing a new function that will compensate creators. The first Twitter ad revenue sharing payments were made over the course of a few months, beginning in February, and were only available to artists who had signed up for the Blue program and generated at least five million impressions. As it would be challenging to decide which creators to compensate for advertisements served in the feed (this is the same issue short-form video platforms like TikTok are encountering with revenue sharing), Twitter is monetizing the advertising shown in tweet replies. It follows that artists will naturally want to offer incentives for people to respond to their tweets. The ideal case scenario would be that this would spark dialogue; however, as we are aware from sites like Facebook, strong emotions are what generate the greatest interest. “We’re expanding our creator monetization offering to include ads revenue sharing for creators. This means that creators can get a share in ad revenue, starting in the replies to their posts. This is part of our effort to help people earn a living directly on Twitter. We’re rolling out the program more broadly later this month, and all eligible creators will be able to apply,” Twitter said. 3) Twitter monetization in which countries ? Ans) Luckily, the Twitter ad revenue sharing program is eligible in every country that Stripe is eligible for a payout. “We are rolling out to an initial group who will be invited to accept payment,” the company added. Before this, Twitter had announced its new monetization features. On April 14, the function debuted under the “Subscriptions” menu, but it was only partially functional. All users in more than 110 countries can now access it. Your Twitter account must have been active for at least three months in order to allow monetization. Additionally, it must have 25 tweets in the previous 30 days and at least 500 followers. Until they reach $50,000 in income, Twitter will let content creators keep up to 92% of their earnings. The user’s revenue share decreases to 80% after that point. Twitter plans to work with the Stripe payment system to coordinate payments. 4) How to get paid on Twitter? Ans) Twitter is a powerful platform for sharing thoughts, ideas, and news. But did you know that you can also make money on Twitter, and the Twitter ad revenue sharing program is not the only option? There are a few different ways to get paid on Twitter. Here are a few of the most popular methods: * Sponsored tweets: This is where you partner with a brand to promote their product or service in a tweet. You can charge a flat fee or a commission on sales. * Affiliate marketing: This is where you promote a product or service on Twitter and earn a commission for each sale that you generate. * Subscriptions: This is where you charge your followers a monthly fee to access exclusive content or features. * Tips: This is where your followers can send you money directly through Twitter. So, how do you get started making money on Twitter? Here are a few tips: * Build a following: The first step is to build a large enough following that brands will want to work with you.
