Highlights New Capture button offers physical and touch-sensitive controls Button enables swiping to zoom and pressure-sensitive focusing Positioned on the right side, replacing the mmWave 5G antenna Capture button available across all iPhone 16 models Apple's upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is set to feature a new 'Capture button', offering users an innovative way to take photos and control camera functions. This addition will be available across all models in the range, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Brand New Capture Button New Capture button offers physical and touch-sensitive controls The Capture button is expected to have a mechanical design, allowing users to physically press it in and out. However, reports from The Information suggest that the button's surface will be touch-sensitive, enabling additional functionality. Users may be able to swipe left and right on the button to zoom in and out, adding a new dimension to camera control. Further enhancing its capabilities, the Capture button is rumoured to offer pressure-sensitive features. Capture button available across all iPhone 16 models Users might be able to focus images with a light press and activate the shutter with a firmer press, providing a more intuitive photography experience. Located on the right side of the device, the new button will occupy the space currently housing the mmWave 5G antenna in US models. This positioning, revealed in CAD drawings and dummy units, suggests a significant redesign of the iPhone's exterior. No Action Button? Button enables swiping to zoom and pressure-sensitive focusing The introduction of the Capture button marks a departure from the Action button, which was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models. By extending this feature to the entire iPhone 16 range, Apple seems to be democratising advanced camera controls across its lineup. This new feature is reminiscent of the camera button found on Apple's previous Smart Battery Cases, which were popular among photography enthusiasts. The Capture button appears to be a more integrated and advanced version of this concept. While initial reactions to the rumoured Capture button were mixed, the addition of touch and pressure-sensitive features has generated increased interest. These enhancements could significantly improve the user experience for mobile photography, potentially setting a new standard in smartphone camera interfaces.
