He further noted that watching a film with the prime minister was a first for him too, thanks to his daughter Ekta Kapoor, who is one of the producers of the movie. Raashii Khanna echoed this sentiment and expressed her excitement about the experience. The movie The Sabarmati Report explores the tragic fire on the Sabarmati Express at Godhra on February 27, 2002, which claimed the lives of 59 devotees returning from Ayodhya after a religious ceremony. The incident followed by widespread communal riots remains a sensitive topic in India's history. The film has received strong support from the ruling BJP with several state governments declaring it tax-free. The Gujarat police had attributed the train fire to a Muslim mob leading to arrests and convictions. However, the incident sparked a political storm. An inquiry commission led by then Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, a Congress ally, had controversially conclude d that the fire was accidental. The Gujarat High Court later quashed the commission’s findings and declared it unconstitutional.
