(Image credit - Counterpoint Research) Apple iPhone 15 series tops global smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2024 in Counterpoint Research’s latest rankings. While the standard iPhone 15 snatches the top spot, the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro followed closely behind for second and third position on the rankings respectively. The third quarter ranking shows a complete dominance of Apple taking over the top 3 spots in the global top-10 best-selling smartphones list. For the first time in a third quarter, Pro models accounted for half of all iPhone sales. On the other hand, we have Samsung with the most number of phones in the top 10 list. Samsung's strong presence is maintained by four Samsung A series smartphones making it in the top 10. Apart from this, the Galaxy S24 also continued to be in the top 10 for the third consecutive quarter. It’s also the first time since 2018 that a Galaxy S model has been in the top 10. The top 10 smartphone models accounted for 19% of global sales in Q3 2024. When it comes to market share, Samsung managed to get the maximum five spots in the best-selling smartphones list and Apple remained closely behind with four iPhones on the list. This left only one spot for Xiaomi, which was grabbed by Redmi 13C. The rankings are very similar to what we have seen last year. This suggests that primary consumer behaviour has not changed too much from the last quarter. The Q3 2024 rankings highlight a major shift in the smartphone industry where the global demand for premium smartphones is on the rise. The sale numbers of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are very close, which shows equal interest in both standard and high-end devices. We can say that Apple’s marketing, payment options and trade-in deals have also helped the company ensure its latest iPhones reach more people mainly in emerging economies. Samsung's success was mainly because of the growing popularity of Galaxy S24, which included advanced GenAI features. But the S24 is not the only best-performing smartphone from Samsung. Samsung's Galaxy A series, which is known for its affordability and long-term software support, took four spots in the top 10 owing to its popularity in developing markets. Xiaomi’s Redmi 13C remained in the top 10 due to its low price and improvements over the previous Redmi 12C model. Overall, the iPhone 15 series dominated the global smartphone market in Q3 2024, driven by strong demand and appealing new features. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 and Galaxy A series also performed well, supported by their solid brand reputation and a wide range of products. FAQs Q1.
