Highlights Spotify introduces Audiobooks Access subscription at $9.99 for 15 hours of audiobooks. Premium tier includes 15 hours of audiobooks plus ad-free music and podcasts for $10.99. Spotify’s new tier directly competes with Audible's subscription models. Option to "top up" audiobook hours offers flexibility for avid readers. Spotify has unveiled a standalone subscription tier exclusively for audiobooks, marking a significant addition to its diverse content portfolio. This new tier, named Audiobooks Access, emerges amidst a notable 45% daily increase in audiobook interest among Spotify's free users. Spotify Navigating the Audiobook Landscape Spotify has introduced an access tier for audiobooks At a glance, the pricing strategy for the Audiobooks Access tier, set at $9.99 for 15 hours of audiobook listening, might raise eyebrows, especially when compared to Spotify's Premium tier. The Premium subscription, priced slightly higher at $10.99, not only offers the same 15 hours of audiobooks but also includes ad-free access to music and podcasts. This pricing will present a curious value proposition for potential subscribers, so perhaps Spotify might want to adjust its plans in the future. Spotify's move can be interpreted as an attempt to introduce users to its audiobook offerings, potentially paving the way for a seamless transition to the more encompassing Premium tier. Furthermore, the option to "top up" audiobook listening hours for an additional fee introduces a flexible model catering to varying user demands. A Competitive Foray into Audiobooks Spotify offers several subscription plans tailored to fit a variety of users’ preferences and will continue to invest in giving our listeners more options to cater to their unique needs With the launch of the Audiobooks Access tier, Spotify directly challenges established players in the audiobook market, most notably Audible. Audible's subscription plans, priced at $7.95 and $14.95, offer unlimited listening to a curated selection of titles, with the latter including one free audiobook choice per month. While Spotify boasts a broader title selection, Audible's model of unlimited listening appeals to avid audiobook listeners. Spotify's venture into audiobooks began in earnest in 2022 following the acquisition of digital audiobook distributor Findaway. This move initially allowed users to purchase audiobooks directly through Spotify, integrating this offering into the Premium tier the following year. Can I extend my listening hours on Spotify Audiobooks Access? Yes, Spotify offers the flexibility to "top up" your audiobook listening hours for an additional fee, catering to users who consume audiobook content more extensively. Spotify ventured into the audiobook market in 2022 after acquiring Findaway, a digital audiobook distributor, and has since integrated audiobook purchases and subscriptions into its platform.
