Highlights Fresh design with a glass back look and larger display. Powered by Android 14 Go edition for a streamlined experience. Maintains the 5,000mAh battery and camera specs of its predecessor. Offers enhanced connectivity options and affordable pricing. The Poco C61 has made its debut in India, presenting itself as an intriguing contender in the entry-level smartphone segment. Breaking a two-year design hiatus, Poco introduces a fresh aesthetic with a taller display and enhanced connectivity options, while also boasting Android 14 (Go edition) for a cleaner, spam-free user experience. Despite these updates, the heart of the device—the processor—remains unchanged from its predecessor, as does the robust 5,000mAh battery and the camera configuration, a challenging feat at the competitive price point of Rs 6,999. Has Poco succeeded in offering a genuinely better smartphone, or is it a masterful illusion? Let's dive into my POCO C61 review to unravel the nitty-gritty of the device. Unboxing the POCO C61 Unboxing the POCO C61 Unboxing Video POCO C61 POCO C61: Key Specs POCO C61: Key Specs Android 14 Go edition 5,000 mAh battery 10W fast charging 6.71-inch HD+ display 8MP rear, 5MP front camera Up to 6GB RAM + 6GB extended 128GB internal, expandable to 1TB POCO C61: Pros and Cons Pros Cons Affordable price point Basic camera functionality Clean Android 14 Go Performance optimization needed Decent battery life POCO C61: Design POCO C61: Design Poco's C61, with its newly minted glass back, immediately caught my attention. While the material used is most certainly polycarbonate, the build and finish certainly live up to expectations. The version in my hands, mystical green, showcases a subtle gradient that truly dazzles under varying lighting conditions. For those with a preference for understatement, blue and black options are available, offering a more subdued aesthetic. The chassis, though flat and somewhat sharp, strikes me as a deliberate design choice rather than a shortfall in refinement. Notably, the camera housing—not just protruding but also pronounced—lends the device a sense of style and sophistication that seems unparalleled in its category. POCO C61: Display POCO C61: Display Turning the device over reveals the unmistakable markers of an entry-level smartphone. The pronounced bezels and the water-drop notch, while not unexpected, are somewhat offset by the increased screen size in this iteration—up to 6.71 inches from 6.5 inches—affording more screen real estate. Although the brightness and refresh rate have seen enhancements, to 90Hz from the previous 60Hz, the improvements are somewhat muted on a 720p LCD panel of this nature. The addition of Corning Gorilla Glass 3 is indeed a boon, offering a layer of resilience often missed in this segment. The display delivers brightness levels lower than I had anticipated. Furthermore, the device comes with only a WideVine L3 certification, hinting at limitations in streaming high-definition content. POCO C61: Cameras POCO C61: Camera The camera setup on the POCO C61, featuring an 8MP rear and a 5MP front camera, aligns with what one might expect at this budget. It's well-suited for occasional photography, video calls, and even scanning documents. The 8MP rear camera obviously bears the brunt of the photographic duties. Despite its simplicity, it delivers fairly good results, although it's clear from the get-go that these are very basic imaging tools, so one should temper their expectations accordingly. I've found a particular enjoyment in experimenting with the AI portrait mode, which does a commendable job at creating that sought-after blurred background effect, and the film filters offer a quick way to inject some creativity into shots. The 5MP selfie camera, equipped with AI beautification and portrait mode, proves sufficient for capturing those essential selfie moments. However, it's important to note the average dynamic range and how the device handles exposure. While the shutter speeds are commendably fast and the colours vividly saturated, these traits sometimes lead to overemphasized hues. And of course, low light photography is out of reach for this entry-level offering, an occasional hazard of devices in this price range. POCO C61: Day Camera Samples POCO C61: Night Camera Samples POCO C61: Day Video POCO C61: Night Video POCO C61: Performance and Features POCO C61: Performance and Features The POCO C61 is powered by the Helio G36 processor and has been a mixed bag. Not because the chip itself lacks power, but rather due to optimization issues that make it hard to recommend in its current state. Despite this, my experience with switching between apps, browsing the web, and scrolling through social media has been relatively smooth, without significant interruptions. My review unit came equipped with 6GB of RAM, providing that extra bit of leeway for multitasking. Additionally, it boasts 6GB of extended RAM, effectively bringing the total to 12GB when combined with physical and virtual memory, alongside 128GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. This storage can further be expanded up to 1TB via a microSD card, which is a notable plus. For those who lean towards the phone's basic functionalities—communication, light entertainment, and organization—the POCO C61's performance will likely suffice. The speaker quality and fingerprint sensor functionality meet the expectations for routine usage, and I've found the 4G connectivity to be seamless. All things considered, the POCO C61 caters well to the casual user, though the performance nuances suggest there's room for optimization to truly unlock its potential. POCO C61: Software and Battery POCO C61: Software and Battery Running on Android 14, albeit the Go edition, has been a surprisingly refreshing experience, especially considering the POCO C61's price bracket. This lighter version of Android makes perfect sense, both in terms of matching the device's hardware capabilities and enhancing overall utility. The user interface is straightforward, sparing me from the barrage of spammy notifications often seen in other devices. Features like the Mi dialler add a touch of functionality without making the experience overwhelming, striking a nice balance between simplicity and utility. The device is equipped with a 5,000 mAh battery, supporting 10W fast charging. Given the HD+ display and the efficient user interface, the battery consumption is minimal, allowing the phone to last up to two days on a single charge, depending on usage patterns. However, it's worth noting the charging speed isn't the fastest at 10W which will be a bummer for those accustomed to quicker charging solutions. POCO C61: Final Verdict POCO C61: Final Verdict The POCO C61, with its offerings, makes a compelling case for those on the hunt for an affordable yet capable smartphone. Running the latest Android 14 Go edition, it caters well to basic needs without the unnecessary frills that often bog down performance. The device's design and display quality are respectable, considering its price point, providing a satisfactory user experience. The battery life is another strong suit, promising extended usage that can easily cover a day or two. However, the phone's performance and camera capabilities reflect its budget nature, revealing the compromises made to achieve its attractive price. Overall, the POCO C61 is a practical choice for users seeking essential smartphone features without breaking the bank. 5 Reasons to Buy 5 Reasons to Buy Latest Android Version: The phone runs Android 14 Go edition, offering a clean and user-friendly interface.
