HIGHLIGHTS * The Nothing Phone (2) is launching on July 11. * The device is confirmed to feature a 6.7-inch display and a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. * The smartphone is expected to pack 12GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. Nothing is gearing up for the launch of the Nothing Phone (2) smartphone. The company already had confirmed the launch date of the device as July 11. Additionally, ahead of the official launch, the company has been confirming key details of the upcoming Nothing Phone (2) smartphone via its Twitter handle. A couple of days back, the brand confirmed the battery capacity and display size details of the Nothing Phone (2). Also, ahead of the official launch, the Nothing Phone (2) has been receiving a few certifications lately. The device was spotted at BIS certification back in March. In a recent development now, the Nothing Phone (2) has received the NBTC certification. Nothing Phone (2) is set to debut globally and in India on July 11th. The company has already confirmed the chipset, display size and battery capacity of the phone. Now, ahead of the launch next month, Nothing founder and CEO Carl Pei has teased the USB Type-C to Type-C cable that will be bundled with the Phone (2). This comes with a brand-new design, unlike the one that shipped with the Phone (1). Carl Pei founded Nothing is famous for its transparent design accessories. Till now, the company made transparent TWS earbuds and smartphones. However, in a recent movie, Carl confirmed it would soon release a transparent Type-C to Type-C cable for its upcoming launch. Hours after teasing the cable, the founder revealed the design of its upcoming cable via Twitter. It seems that the transparent charging cable would be limited to Nothing Phone (2) as of now. In an official statement, Manu Sharma, VP and GM of Nothing India said: “Nothing smartphones are known for their iconic transparent design. These designs require hi-tech manufacturing processes and precision engineering which have led to enhancement of smartphone manufacturing capabilities in India. Our drive to manufacture in India reflects our commitment towards the local consumers and their demands. We are proud to announce that Phone (2) will be manufactured in India.” Nothing Phone (2) Receives NBTC Certification As per the NBTC certification listing, the device carries the model number as A065. This is the same model number which was exclusively revealed back in February. Apart from the model number, the NBTC certification also confirms the moniker as Phone (2). As far as the specifications of the handset go, it is confirmed to feature a 6.7-inch display. We can expect the smartphone to make use of an AMOLED panel which could offer a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, the device is confirmed to feature a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. As per the Geekbench test result, the device will ship with 12GB of RAM. We can expect the Nothing Phone (2) to come in 128GB/256GB storage configuration. As for the software, the handset is expected to boot Android 13 out of the box. The smartphone is expected to pack a 4,700mAh battery which likely will support fast charging. Currently, the other key specifications of the Nothing Phone (2) such as rear camera configuration, front camera details, as well as storage and RAM configuration are yet to be revealed. In a piece of related news, the renders of the Nothing Phone (2) were leaked earlier this month. The leaked renders revealed that the Nothing Phone (2) will have a minor design change compared to the Phone (1). The renders also confirmed that the Phone (2) will have a slight alteration in the alignment of the glyph interface. However, soon after these renders were leaked, Nothing CEO Carl Pei took to Twitter and responded with the single word “Fake”, thereby refuting the authenticity of the leaked renders. Nothing Phone (2) Expected Specifications * Display: 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 120Hz refresh rate, Full HD+ resolution, punch-hole cutout. * Processor: Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 730 GPU. * RAM And storage: 8GB/12GB RAM, 128GB/256GB of internal storage. * Software: Android 13-based Nothing OS 2.0. * Rear camera: 50MP main camera, 50MP ultra-wide lens. * Front camera: 32MP. * Other specifications: In-display fingerprint scanner, dual speakers. * Battery: 4700mAh, 33W fast charging support. Nothing Phone (2): What is known so far Nothing Phone (2) being spotted on the BIS website hints towards an imminent India launch. However, tipster Abhishek Yadav claims that Nothing Phone (2) has only cleared stage 1 of the BIS certification and stage 2 approval is yet to be given. Any product has to clear 2 stages of approval before launching in India, so Nothing Phone (2) might just arrive in H2 2023. Carl Pei’s Nothing has already confirmed that Nothing Phone (2) will be a much more premium device than its predecessor and will be powered by a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Although it is not confirmed if the chipset will be Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the possibility of it being the latter is higher. Other expected specs include up to 12GB RAM, up to 256GB storage, an FHD+ AMOLED display, a 120Hz refresh rate, a 5000mAh battery, and a glyph LED interface. Details about the other specs are still kept well under wraps, so we’ll have to wait some more to know them. Meanwhile, let’s have a look at the specs of Nothing Phone 1 to get an idea about what Nothing Phone (2) might entail. Nothing Phone (2) TDRA listing Spotted Nothing Phone (2) has received TDRA certification. The device has appeared with the model number “A065” in the database of the UAE’s certification platform. The same device has been spotted at the BIS certification in India and on Geekbench. These listings show that it will not take too long for the Nothing Phone (2) to go official. According to reports, the Nothing Phone (2) will debut in July in India. Before the expected launch, the brand has been gradually confirming the key features of the device. While the original Nothing Phone (1) was powered by an upper midrange chip, the Phone (2) will feature a more powerful flagship SoC. Nothing Phone (2) Gets a Transparent Type-C Cable Nothing is all set to launch its second smartphone on July 11 in India and in other global markets. The phone will have the same transparent design as its predecessor, Phone (2). However, we expect that there could be some improvements in the glyph interface and LED lightning. The transparent design of the Phone (1) helped the company to stand out among the ocean of smartphone companies in the mid-budget range. The company has announced that it will now release a special-looking cable for its upcoming device. Carl Pei earlier today teased the cable by tweeting, “Man our new USB Type-C cable is nice”. Four hours later, the founder revealed the first look of the Nothing Phone (2) transparent Type-C cable. As per the image shared by Carl, both the end ports would have transparent lids instead of the plastic coating that we get to see on the regular cables. Inside the ports, we can see the Nothing logo. Do note that the rest of the part i.e. wire would be covered by different materials, polycarbonate most likely. The rest of the details are wrapped. As of now, it would be hard to say if the cables would be sold separately or not. The Nothing Phone (2) smartphone boxes are expected to carry these transparent bundles. Nothing Phone (2) USB Type-C cable’s Design There is a new silver-coloured finish with a transparent design for the outer shell. This is in line with the phone’s transparent design. The Type-C cable has ‘Nothing’ branding, which is again new. The colour of the cable is White, similar to the one that came with the Nothing Phone (1). Nothing Phone (2) will also not come with a charging brick in the box. The company is selling a 45W charging brick on Flipkart, though the Phone (1) only supports 33W fast charging. It remains to be seen whether Nothing Phone (2) will get faster charging speeds. Nothing Phone (2) Expected India Price Nothing Phone (2) is expected to launch at around Rs 40,000 in India. Nothing Phone (2) will be available for purchase on Flipkart. Nothing Phone (2) Design hinted by the company The latest Nothing phone is expected to have a design similar to the Nothing Phone (1). This is something that the company has hinted in a recent interview and the rumour mill has also suggested previously. When the company’s CEO Carl Pei was asked about Glyph Interface with LEDs at the back that we saw on the Phone (1), Pei asserted that the upcoming 5G phone will have more customization options and functionality. This suggests that we will likely get to see the same design. The company has also hinted that the major focus this time is on improving and offering a better software experience to users. He didn’t explicitly mention we will get the same LED design at the back of the Phone (2), but the mention of more customization options suggests that Nothing is planning to offer an older design. There are chances that the new Nothing phone could come with some changes at the back panel to offer users a refreshing look. The brand has previously confirmed that the new 5G phone features an aluminum side frame. We will likely get more details on the design department soon as the launch event is nearing. Nothing Phone (2) Launch Date Nothing Phone (2) is scheduled to release on July 11th, the company announced on Twitter. The launch event will take place in London at 16:00 BST which would be 8:30 pm IST for viewers in India. Nothing will live stream the event on its official website. Nothing Phone (2): Expected Specifications The Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by a flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, which the OnePlus 11R smartphone is also using. The device sports a 6.7-inch display and a 4,700mAh battery under the hood. While the company hasn’t confirmed the charging details, we expect it to offer support for fast charging tech because the same was also available with the Nothing Phone (1). The details of the camera sensors are yet to be revealed by the company. Nothing also revealed that its new Phone (2) smartphone will be eligible to receive three years of Android OS upgrades and four years of security patches. The company has promised that the latest Nothing OS build will offer a faster experience and more features to users. We expect the device to ship with Android 13 OS out of the box because the company offers the latest operating system with its new device. Nothing OS 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, and Mladen Hoyss: A Brief History Nothing has had a bit of an interesting history since its inception. With Nothing OS 1.0, the company had a small team of roughly five people and outside contractors building up its operating system, hence the resemblance to stock Android and few unique features. Following the launch of Phone (1), the company scaled up its team to nearly 100 people, building Nothing OS 1.5 with more features and improvements. Now we’re moving into the next stage of the company’s own Android system: Nothing OS. Speaking with Hoyss about his introduction to Nothing, he first started with Blloc and the Zero 18, focusing on minimalism. The company then went on to make Ratio, a launcher also focused on minimalism that’s available on the Google Play Store. Now he works at Nothing as the company’s Software Creative Designer, and there’s a lot of change that he wants to incorporate. Hoyss’ story, he tells me, started with seeing the original Phone (1) and enjoying the design of it, but that the software “wasn’t what you expect” based on the design of the phone. He then took his team of “very talented designers” from Blloc to Nothing to begin work on creating a new look for Nothing OS. Hoyss tells me that there may be some overlap visually and they’re “kind of on the same page”, but that it’s still an entirely different product that has to be “edgy and techy.” As a result, when it comes to Nothing OS 2.0, the company wants to “start almost from scratch” in terms of looks, as it has the “opportunity” and “momentum” to do so. The key concept behind Nothing OS 2.0, according to Hoyss, is “functional aesthetics”, which is a data science term that relates to taking a lot of data and trying to visualize it and make it easy to digest. Ans) Pei has been teasing the Phone (2) for a while now, hinting that it will deliver a premium experience compared to the Phone (1). The Phone (2) upgrades to last year’s top-end Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip from Qualcomm from the Snapdragon 778G+, which powered the first one. With the Phone (2) will arrive Nothing OS 2.0, which the company says will combine the best of Android to enhance accessibility and efficiency for users. During an interview, Pei disclosed that Nothing is making significant investments in software development, particularly emphasising the Phone 2 s software. According to reports, Nothing has expanded its software team and now includes several experienced individuals who previously worked at OnePlus, Pei’s former company. Nothing has confirmed that the Phone (2) will feature a bigger display, about 0.15 inches bigger than the Phone (1). Then, the Phone (2) will also boast a bigger battery of 4700mAh, 200mAh more than what it was in the Phone (1). Also, it has a lower carbon footprint than the first-gen model. The company has announced that the Phone (2) will be made in India. The Phone (2) will go on sale in India through Flipkart. 2) What are the specs & features of Nothing Phone (2)? Ans) Nothing has made official announcements regarding the upcoming Nothing Phone (2), providing insights into its specifications. The device will feature a 6.7-inch AMOLED screen, with speculation suggesting a possible FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz, promising a visually immersive experience. Confirmed details reveal that the Nothing Phone (2) will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, ensuring powerful performance. Geekbench sightings have hinted at 12 GB of RAM and the device operating on the latest Android 13. To deliver a productive and minimalist user interface, the phone will introduce Nothing OS 2.0, which will overlay the Android operating system. Nothing has committed to providing three major Android OS upgrades and three years of security updates, ensuring long-term software support. The Nothing Phone (2) will come with a 4,700mAh battery, providing ample power for extended usage. However, details regarding its fast charging capabilities are yet to be disclosed. While specifics about the camera setup remain undisclosed, the device is known to feature sustainable materials and an aluminum frame, combining durability and eco-conscious design. 3) What are the details of Nothing Phone (2) TDRA certification? Ans) *The Nothing Phone (2) has received the TDRA certification. * The listing shows the model number A065 and this also reveals the marketing name of the phone. * Beyond the model number and marketing name, the listing doesn’t reveal any key specifications of the phone but we already few key details of the phone. 4) Nothing’s leaked Phone 2 design looks like a curvier follow-up to its first phone .Details? Ans) Ahead of the official launch of the Nothing Phone 2 next month, leaker OnLeaks has published unofficial renders based on a prototype of the new device. You might be disappointed if you’re expecting the phone to be a radical departure from Nothing’s previous devices since it looks like the essential design of the Phone 1 lives on in its successor. But there are a couple of differences to tease out from the renders, though cautions the phone’s design may have changed since this prototype was produced. Most notably, the flat, squared-off top and sides of the Phone 1 appear to have been given more of a curve for the Phone 2. As Android Authority notes, it makes the Phone 2 look like an iPhone 6 next to the iPhone 5-style design of the Phone 1. Notes that the front and back of the Phone 2 also have a subtle curve to them. If these renders are accurate, it appears as though the back of the Phone 2 will also have a flashing glyph interface similar to the Phone 1. But although the overall shape of the lighting strips is similar, several of them have been split into separate strips, such as around the wireless charging coil and dual cameras. The renders match a cropped image of the handset Nothing released last month. Nothing has officially said the Phone 2 will be announced in July, a year after the launch of its predecessor. It’s already announced that the phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, will have a bigger 4,700mAh battery, 6.7-inch display, and — unlike the Phone 1 — will be officially released in the US. 5) Nothing Phone 2 to ‘enhance’ India’s smartphone manufacturing capabilities; know how? Ans) Nothing Phone 2 will be made in India, the VP and GM of Nothing India, Manu Sharma, said today. In a statement shared with the media, the executive confirmed the Phone 2, Nothing’s upcoming “premium” smartphone, will feature a transparent design requiring hi-tech manufacturing processes and precision engineering potentially contributing to the enhancement of country’s smartphone manufacturing capabilities. Phone 2 is scheduled for global launch in July. “Nothing smartphones are known for their iconic transparent design. These designs require hi-tech manufacturing processes and precision engineering which have led to enhancement of smartphone manufacturing capabilities in India,” Sharma said, adding that “our drive to manufacture in India reflects our commitment towards the local consumers and their demands. We are proud to announce that Phone 2 will be manufactured in India.” London-based Nothing is working on expanding local customer support, alongside, with plans to open over 230 authorised service centres in more than 250 cities. Nothing Phone 2 everything we know so far Ahead of launch, the Phone 2 is being touted as one of the most sustainable smartphones on the market. The phone is said to be using 3x more recycled or bio-based parts than Phone 1 with 100 percent recycled aluminium for the outer frame and entirely plastic-free packaging. The Phone 2 also has a carbon footprint over 5kg lower than the Phone 1, Nothing says, and the final assembly plants where it is being build are claimed to be powered by 100 per cent renewable energy. The Phone 2 is confirmed to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship— but a bit dated— Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, theoretically giving it about 80 percent faster performance than the Phone 1 with the Snapdragon 778G Plus inside. It will come with a screen that is 0.15-inch bigger than Phone 1’s (i.e., 6.7-inch) and boast of a battery capacity of 4,700mAh (200mAh up from the Phone 1’s).
