Highlights iPhone 15 models are tipped to offer Wi-Fi 6E support. The news has been predicted by several analysts. The iPhone will be unveiled in the second half of 2023. iPhone 15 to do a first! Latest leak says big new feature coming Tech giant Apple is prepping to unveil the iPhone 15 series this year, and renowned Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the upcoming lineup will adopt the Wi-Fi 6E standard. It is in line with what Barclays analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley predicted recently. However, they did not specify which models will come equipped with the feature. Apple already uses Wi-Fi 6E for the 14-inch and16-inch MacBook Pro models, the new Mac mini, and the 11- and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models that were released in 2022. Kevin Robinson, Senior Vice President of the Wi-Fi Alliance "You're going to one to maybe two 160 MHz channels And these are ultra-wide channels that allow for very, very high performance... seven of these super-wide channels are in 6GHz Band. This is important when you are in multiple dwelling units. Think of the tall buildings in New York, Chicago and all around the planet, think of the stadiums, that's where having excess capacity becomes essential. Robinson explains, “We were simply approaching a scenario where there would not have been enough spectrum and capacity for people to do everything they wanted to do, and what we envision happening over Wi-Fi.” Multiple rumors have suggested that the next-generation iPhone 15 models will adopt the WiFi 6E standard that Apple has already introduced in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, and now a leaked document appears to confirm Apple's plans. iPhone 15 Series Wi-Fi 6E Support What Does it Mean? Using compatible routers and cable modems, Wi-Fi 6E devices can connect to the 6GHz band, providing faster speed, lower latency, and less interference than you might experience on the standard 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies. It is the first Wi-Fi standard that can connect to networks at 6GHz. The older Wi-Fi 6 standard could only connect to networks at 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Wi-Fi 6E is becoming more popular, but users need a Wi-Fi 6E router to get the most out of it. A report by MacRumors claims that several manufacturers, including Linksys, ASUS, and Netgear, are already offering Wi-Fi 6E hardware. iPhone 15 Specifications Expected Like every year, Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 15 series - consisting of four smartphones, including the iPhone 15, iPhone 15Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which might be renamed iPhone 15 Ultra - in the second half of the year. According to a recent report, these smartphones may not come with curved displays but will have curved edges. All the models are said to come with the Dynamic Island feature, which was seen on the iPhone 14 Pro models. Meanwhile, Kuo recently said that the iPhone 15 Pro's volume and power buttons would be solid-state devices. He added that if this modification is well received, more high-end devices might do the same in the future. A report hints that the tech giant planned to speed up iPhone manufacturing in India. New Apple Leak Reveals Cutting-Edge iPhone 15 Feature Sourced from researcher and Apple leaker Unknownz21 (@URedditor), the document features diagrams of the iPhone 15's antenna architecture. D8x refers to the iPhone 15 Pro models, and the information indicates that the faster Wi-Fi 6E specification will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 models, labeled as D3y, will continue to use Wi-Fi 6 rather than Wi-Fi 6E. For further reference, D7x refers to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, and D2y refers to the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus, with the document outlining antenna design changes between the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro. MacRumors has seen additional documentation indicating that Wi-Fi 6E will be a Pro only indicating that Wi-Fi 6E will be a Pro only feature. As of now, Wi-Fi 6E has already been added to some of Apple's product lineup, but it is limited to the latest iPad Pro, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro models. Apple has not previously restricted new Wi-Fi standards to a Pro iPhone, but the iPhone 15 Pro models will have several features that are not available in the iPhone 15, and limiting it makes sense from a cost and availability perspective. Wi-Fi 6E allows devices to connect to routers and modems that support the Wi-Fi 6E standard, but it is a newer technology and is not yet widespread. Wi-Fi 6E routers are standard, but it is a newer technology and is not yet widespread. Wi-Fi 6E routers are readily available, but because they have only started launching over the past few years, many people and businesses have not yet upgraded. Wi-Fi 6E routers include the 6GHZ band in addition to the 2.4 and 5GHz bands, and to use 6GHz, both a Wi-Fi 6E router and a Wi-Fi 6E device are required. Wi-Fi 6E to be Restricted to iPhone 15 Pro with A17 Processor We've seen Apple force Wi-Fi standards based on internal chipsets before. For example new Homepod the S7 processor, which is limited to Wi-Fi 802.11n, while the previous model had 802.11ac. Compared to Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E offers more bandwidth, providing faster connectivity speeds, lower latency, and increased capacity. Wi-Fi 6E provides 1.2GHz more spectrum in the 6GHz band, and it can support whole home gigabit coverage, multi-gigabit connectivity for venues, and it has the bandwidth for higher data streams like those used for AR and VR experiences. Since Wi-Fi 6E requires both routers and devices to support the standard, it is largely an empty band at this time with little traffic, which means iPhone 15 Pro models with Wi-Fi 6E will be able to connect to Wi-Fi 6E networks that don't have much competition in terms of traffic from other devices. Unknownz21 has in the past leaked information on devices like the iPhone 14, and back in 2020, he was able to source a copy of iOS 14 ahead of its launch, sharing details about the update. Unknownz21 told MacRumors that the diagram is "only the tip of the iceberg" and that additional leaks on the iPhone 15 series, including full images, will be coming ahead of when the iPhone 15 models are scheduled to move into the EVT (engineering validation test) stage in March. Documents that he has obtained also confirm that the iPhone 15 Pro models will feature faster 3m A17 chips and solid-state volume and power buttons. The iPhone 15 models will continue to use A16 chips, as previously rumored, and will not feature the redesigned volume buttons. Ans 11) One of the main advantages of WiFi 6E is its ability to provide faster speeds. The 6GHz frequency band is much wider than the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands currently used by WiFi, which means that it can carry more data. This results in faster download and upload speeds, as well as lower latency. With WiFi 6E, users can expect to see speeds of up to 9.6 Gbps, which is nearly three times faster than the maximum speeds of WiFi 6. Another advantage of WiFi 6E is its ability to reduce congestion. The 6GHz frequency band is much less crowded than the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, which means that there is less interference from other devices. This results in a more reliable connection, with fewer dropped connections and less buffering. WiFi 6E also provides more capacity, which means it can handle more devices at once. This is particularly useful for households and offices with lots of smart devices or bandwidth needs, where multiple people and devices are connecting to the same network. Ques 12) What is Wifi 6E? Ans 12) WiFi 6E is a wireless standard that expands on WiFi 6 by adding the 6GHz band, allowing more devices to connect to available Wi-Fi channels without leading to spectrum congestion. In simple words, the standard makes more bandwidth available which translates to speedier, more reliable access and lower latency. You will need a compatible router though, but that shouldn't be a problem as various companies including Asus, Linksys, and Netgear sell Wi-Fi 6E devices.
