Highlight Apple announced a Rs 100 crore investment in renewable energy and environmental projects in India. The company plans to work with local organisations and suppliers to expand the use of clean energy. Apple’s initiative may help strengthen India’s green manufacturing sector and clean energy infrastructure. Apple has announced a major Rs 100 crore investment in renewable energy and environmental projects in India. This move shows the company’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and supporting India’s shift to clean energy. The investment by Apple will support clean energy projects, environmental programs, and community sustainability efforts. The goal is to cut carbon emissions and encourage greener manufacturing. This announcement comes as Apple grows its manufacturing and supply chain in India. The company said the initiative supports its global goal to become carbon neutral across all operations, supply chains, and products by 2030. Apple’s Renewable Energy Initiative in India With this new initiative, Apple aims to accelerate the adoption of renewable energy across its India operations and among its suppliers. The company will support clean electricity projects and help suppliers switch to greener energy sources. Apple noted that some of its suppliers in India already use renewable energy for manufacturing. With this investment, the company aims to expand these efforts and rely less on fossil fuels across its production process. The initiative will also support conservation projects, better resource management, and sustainable development in local communities. Apple’s Partnership for Clean Energy Projects Apple confirmed it will expand its renewable energy investment with CleanMax, a top renewable energy developer in India. This partnership will help develop over 150 megawatts of renewable energy, enough to power about 150,000 Indian homes each year. Previously, Apple worked with CleanMax on rooftop solar projects to power its offices and stores in India with 100 per cent renewable energy. This project builds on Apple’s work with Saahas Zero Waste in Goa and is now expanding to other areas, including Coimbatore. The program aims to establish traceable systems for collecting, sorting, and recovering recyclables while ensuring environmental and social protections. Apple said it also wants to improve local waste management by working with city officials, waste workers, and communities. Apple to Support Sustainability-Focused Startups Apple is also helping sustainability-focused startups through a partnership with Acumen, a nonprofit impact investor. The program will give grants and support to six early-stage companies working in waste management, circular economy, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable livelihoods. The initiative includes mentorship, technical assistance, and strategic guidance intended to help participating ventures scale their operations. Apple has previously collaborated with Acumen on clean-energy-focused entrepreneurship programs in India. Among the ventures highlighted by the company are Saptkrishi, which makes affordable cold storage for farmers; Yotuh Energy, which works on electric refrigerated transport; and MOWO Fleet, which creates electric mobility jobs for women drivers and entrepreneurs. Apple’s Expanding Sustainability Vision Apple has been steadily increasing its global focus on environmental responsibility. The company claims that many of its facilities worldwide already operate on 100 per cent renewable electricity. With India becoming an increasingly important market and manufacturing destination for Apple, the latest investment signals the company’s intention to integrate sustainability deeply into its India growth strategy. This announcement also shows how global tech companies are increasingly working with India’s clean energy sector, which is rapidly growing as the country moves toward a greener future. FAQs Q 1.
