Samsung appears to be preparing a notable design change for its next Ultra flagship. New CAD-based renders of the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra, created by OnLeaks, have surfaced in an exclusive Android Headlines report ahead of the phone’s expected launch.
While a lot of possible renders and leaked images have been circulating online in the last few days, the latest CAD renders offer a detailed look at the upcoming smartphone from the front, rear and sides. These also give us an early idea of how Samsung could differentiate the Galaxy S27 Ultra from the current Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Could Get a Major Camera Design Change
At first glance, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to retain much of the design language seen on its predecessor. However, the camera arrangement could receive the biggest change.
Samsung is moving away from the vertically arranged cameras placed along the left side and adopting a raised “camera plateau” positioned towards the top of the rear panel.
The redesigned camera section could offer Samsung some practical benefits as well. It may create additional room for larger camera hardware and improved cooling, while also allowing the phone to better accommodate magnetic charging.
That said, the telephoto hardware shown in the renders still appears relatively compact. For comparison, the 5x telephoto camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra uses a 1/2.52-inch sensor.
Interestingly, the new rear camera arrangement may look more similar to HONOR’s approach than Apple’s, although the broader design inspiration appears to be closer to what Google introduced with its Pixel phones.
S Pen Confirmed to Stay
The S Pen is another feature that Samsung does not appear ready to abandon. OnLeaks has reportedly confirmed that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will continue to include the S Pen.
There had been concerns that Samsung could eventually remove the built-in stylus, particularly after the company dropped Bluetooth functionality from the S Pen several years ago.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Dimensions Revealed
According to OnLeaks, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could measure approximately 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm. These figures are not final and may change slightly before Samsung officially launches the smartphone.
For comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra measures 163.6 x 78.1 x 7.9mm. This means the upcoming model could be marginally taller, wider and thicker, although the overall difference should be quite small.
The camera section will add considerably more thickness. With the camera bump included, the phone could measure around 12.53mm at its thickest point. That makes the camera section almost as thick as the phone’s main body. The increase could potentially be justified if Samsung manages to deliver meaningful camera improvements with the new hardware.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Specifications
Samsung is expected to equip the Galaxy S27 Ultra with Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chipset. The processor is currently rumoured to be called the “Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme”. There is also a possibility that Samsung could use the Exynos 2700 in selected markets, particularly as the company has reportedly been testing the chip and found its performance competitive with Qualcomm’s silicon.
Despite the expected processor upgrade, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may not adopt some of the next-generation memory standards. Current information suggests Samsung is unlikely to use LPDDR6 RAM or UFS 5.0 storage on the device.
The display is expected to remain familiar, with the Galaxy S27 Ultra reportedly featuring a 6.9-inch screen with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera. The approximate dimensions are expected to be 163.76 x 78.25 x 7.97mm, while information about the phone’s weight has not surfaced yet.
Recent leaks have pointed towards a capacity of around 5,700mAh. If accurate, that would represent a significant increase over the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
The camera system could see one of the biggest hardware changes on Samsung’s next Ultra phone. The main camera is expected to use Samsung’s ISOCELL HIP6 sensor, which reportedly has a 1/1.3-inch sensor size. Based on the available information, its image output could be broadly similar to the main camera on the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
For the ultrawide camera, Samsung is allegedly considering a 50-megapixel Sony IMX855 sensor. More importantly, the company could finally remove the existing 10-megapixel 3x telephoto camera.
Instead, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may rely on a 50-megapixel 5x telephoto camera as its only dedicated telephoto shooter. The CAD renders appear to support this possibility, as they show three rear cameras instead of the four-camera arrangement found on the current Ultra model.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Price Could Increase
Pricing could be another area where Samsung makes a significant change. The Galaxy S26 Ultra already received a $100 price increase, and another hike is reportedly expected with the Galaxy S27 Ultra.
According to current rumours, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could also become $100 more expensive, potentially taking its starting price to $1,399.
The potential increase is being linked largely to the ongoing memory crisis affecting the technology industry.
Galaxy S27 Ultra Launch Timeline
The Galaxy S26 series arrived in late February, whereas Samsung had traditionally announced its Galaxy S models in January. Based on the current schedule, the Galaxy S27 series could once again arrive in February.
One possibility is that Samsung could announce the Galaxy S27 lineup during the week of February 22, 2027, shortly before Mobile World Congress.
However, Samsung has not confirmed an official launch date yet.
