Vivo has launched its much awaited smartphone, Vivo V9, in India with notch. The smartphone bears striking resemblance to iPhone X, which makes it a perfect choice for those who cannot afford to have an iPhone. The Dongguan based smartphone maker has also officially announced Aamir Khan as its new brand ambassador at this launch. In this review we will be highlighting what new this new 9th generation of Vivo has to offer.

The new Vivo V9 has been beautifully carved with elegance which attracts the attention and there is no doubt about it. The beauty of the phone has been retouched with the light weight of the phone because there is no point of beauty of the phone when you can’t show it off. The power buttons and the volume button is placed at the right side of the device and while the left device has the SIM tray. The design has very similar to that of iPhone X which might make the users attracted towards it. The phone has micro USB port which is quite outdated concept because all the new phones possess has USB type-C port. Looking at the tall and narrow display on the Vivo V9, you might assume that its aspect ratio is 18:9 like many others. However, power it on, and the notch at the top is revealed. The notch is a lot smaller than the one on the iPhone X, and houses an earpiece, a selfie camera, and the proximity and ambient light sensors. It also houses a tiny notification light in the centre, just above the earpiece. The rear side of the phone has two cameras which are positioned vertically and to accompany the camera there is the single LED flash. The camera positioning is similar to that of iPhone X which has now become a trend followed by many smartphones. The rear side is also sporting the fingerprint sensor.


The new Vivo V9 has a 6.3 inch IPS screen with aspect ratio of 19:9 and resolution power of 1080 x 2280 pixels. The screen provides you a complete border-less viewing angles covering up all the minute details of the subject or object being displayed. The wide screen provides you good gaming experience as well. There is no mention of any toughened glass in the Vivo V9 but, the phone has already pre applied screen protector.

The new Vivo V9 is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 SoC processor and the processor is clocked at 2.2Ghz. There is no doubt about the processor keeping the performance of the phone to its optimum level and also easing the task of multitasking. The processor is boosted with 4GB RAM and the RAM together with processor helps in delivering a soothing working of the device. The RAM keeps the device at normal state preventing the device getting heated up due to multi tasking or playing big sized games. The RAM allows you to play any games with ease without any trouble. The new Vivo V9 has 64 GB of internal storage as well which allows you enough space to store anything you wish for. The storage can further be expanded further thanks to the dedicated microSD card slot.

Vivo V9 has Android 8.1 Oreo and its custom FunTouch OS 4.0 UI on top. It comes with the February Android security patch, which is fairly recent. FunTouch doesn’t implement notification dots or smart text selection, but you do get the useful picture in Picture mode.

Other features of the Vivo V9 include Face Unlock which uses the front-facing camera positioned in the notch to unlock the phone after a successful scan. You also have the option to unlock apps using face recognition or a fingerprint. There is a gaming mode which disables heads-up previews and rejects calls automatically, except those from white listed contacts which are answered automatically in hands-free mode while gaming.


The main attractive feature of the Vivo V9 is the camera power of the phone. The phone is sporting powerful front and rear cameras. The rear camera of the Vivo V9 consists of 16MP primary sensor and 5MP secondary sensor. The rear camera takes crystal clear photos in day time and at night also it delivers clear shots with no graining effect in it. The ability to capture clear shots at night makes Vivo V9 more desirable and this feature was also seen in some of its previous smartphones. The rear camera has various modes as well and you can opt for any mode according to your preference. The selfie camera of the Vivo V9 is of 24MP assisted by AI beauty mode. The selfies taken captures every detail and delivers images of great clearance and beauty and it is hard for any other smartphone of the same range to match up. The V9 has an AI-powered beautify mode which can detect age, gender, texture, skin tone, and lighting conditions, and use that information to enhance the output. There are various effects and as well as modes for you to capture images according to your style.


The battery capacity of the Vivo V9 is of 3,260mAh which is adecent amount of battery power in present scenario. The battery can last throughout the day if the use is restricted like playing games and games for short period of time. There is the option of power saving which saves some battery for you to make it through if you want to keep some battery power reserved to last for long time. The charging of the device is also fast as the charger gives output of 5.0V- 2.0A.
