vivo U20 Review: Upgraded Display, Processor with Huge Battery

vivo u20

One very good thing about vivo which allows it to be in the ace of top competitors is the broad frame of the company which incorporates all the price segment and does not focus on emphasizing too much only on one area and the best example of it could be the launch of its new U series phone mostly known for its budget range. The successor of the previous U10 the new vivo U20 is the latest launch from the company. While the competition in the mid-range segment is heating up and meanwhile launching a budget range phone shows that the company is well aware of the market demands and modulates itself according to it. So let’s check out the new vivo U20 in this review of ours.

Design

The new vivo U20 holds an aesthetic appeal to it which comes from the racing black color of the phone. The shiny color on the rear side also forms some patterns when light falls on it making the phone look very beautiful. The body composition of the phone is of plastic but still, the rear side has a shiny finish to it but this shiny rear side has a disadvantage as well which is that it attracts smudges. The phone has a reasonable body and also fits the palm quite comfortably. The physical overview of the phone includes the power button and the volume rockers on the right side of the phone whereas towards the left side lies the triple slot SIM tray meaning a dedicated slot for microSD card. The top side of the phone is blank and the bottom side of the phone has a 3.5mm headphone jack, micro USB port, and a speaker grille. The front fascia of the phone is dominated by the screen and at the rear side lies triple rear camera sensors placed vertically enclosed in an aluminum frame followed by an LED flash. At the rear side lies the physical fingerprint sensor which is placed very accurately within easy reach and on top of all it is very quick to respond to the touch.

Display

The new vivo U20 has arrived with all canons loaded to lure the buyers and this can be witnessed from the 6.53 inches HD screen of the phone which is an IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. The colors reproduced are very good as they are bright and punchy. The big-screen space of the phone under such range is surely an advantageous point on which the company is capitalizing. The viewing angles are very wide and good allowing you to enjoy any function on the screen quite nicely and this is made possible due to 19:5:9 aspect ratio of the phone. The brightness of the phone is quite good as well making the screen visible under bright daylight as well. The screen has a resolution of 1080×2340 pixels and has 395 PPI density. The screen has bezels running around the screen and more of it was visible on the lower screen side.

Platform

vivo U20 is running on Funtouch 9.0 based on Android 9.0 Pie. The OS of the offer various smart features that you can make use of like Ultra Game mode and others. The work efficiency of the new Vivo U20 is something which is making the phone to set new benchmarks under the range which it falls. vivo U20 has emerged as one of the best and fast processing phones under its range and this is achieved by using Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 processor where two of its octa cores are clocked at 2.0GHz Kyro 460 Gold and the six cores are clocked at 1.7GHz Kyro 460 Silver. Multitasking was very easy and fluent and we did not encounter any lag there. The touch response is also very smooth and fast which is very rare to find in phones of such price range but what is more surprising is that the new Vivo has used 6GB RAM to support the processor which might will be the first time where a smartphone is holing such RAM size. Gaming on the phone was quite good as well as because we were able to play big games on it with a slight degradation in the graphics quality but overall the graphics level was very good and games like PUBG, Asphalt ran smoothly. The internal storage of the phone is 64GB which can be further expanded by using a microSD card.

Cameras

vivo u20 camera

The main highlight of the new vivo U20 is the camera quality which it possesses and the capability of the camera to deliver stunning images. The new vivo U20 is making the tag attached to vivo of camera-centric more prominent and higher. The rear cameras, when tested at daylight, were quite amazing as they captured images of superior quality with proper color reproduction and color saturation which amazed us. The detailing of the rear sensor is very good plus the ultrawide shots are amazing as well as the phone has a dedicated sensor to take care of it. Edge detection was on point as well. To make all this possible vivo has used 16MP primary rear sensor with an aperture of f/1.8 which is also the wide lens of the phone. The secondary sensor of the phone is 8MP with an aperture of f/2.2 which is the ultrawide lens of the phone. The third sensor is of 2 MP with an aperture of f/2.4. The images captured at night were also quite good as there was very less amount of noise effects and graining was noticed only when the resolution of the camera was increased. What we loved about the rear camera is the ability to keep the images in their natural form with no over softening. The selfies captured by the phone were quite brilliant and as we talked about maintaining the original colors and skin tone the selfies were also able to hold on to that which we loved. The selfie camera is 16MP with an aperture of f/2.0.

Battery

vivo u20 battery

Another power point of the new vivo U20 which is providing the phone an upper hand under the price segment in which it falls. The new vivo U20 holds a powerful battery of 5,000mAh which can easily outlast a day. While testing the battery longevity, it was able to easily last a day with a single charge. But what more Vivo could have done to make the phone an epitome of smartphones under the price range in which it falls could have been the usage of Type-C port which is missing in the phone and thus having a normal charging speed.

Conclusion

vivo U20 is a decent upgrade from its predecessor, vivo U10, where there’s improvement in display size and a new agile chipset. The battery remains the same having enormous life cycle but, lack of Type-C is quite strange if this is an upgrade. The set of triple rear camera is capable of daily tasks while there’s an upgrade in selfie department with a 16MP lens. Priced at Rs 10,990 for the 4GB+64GB, vivo U20 is a healthy upgrade available today.
