TRANSSION Holdings’ premium smartphone brand TECNO Mobile is a global player with presence in around 60 emerging markets across the world. Recently, it has refreshed its camera-centric smartphone line up in the country with CAMON 15 and CAMON 15Pro for Rs 9,999 and Rs 14,999, respectively.
The company says that the CAMON smartphones will bring the era of higher camera pixels, premium AI-enabled Ultra Night lens (powered by DSP technology) and pop-up selfie camera.
The CAMON 15 comes in Shoal Gold, Fascinating Purple, Dark Jade with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage whereas CAMON 15Pro is available in Ice Jadeite and Opal white colours with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage.
CAMON 15Pro is the first smartphone phone from the company with a pop-up selfie design coupled with some decent hardware specs. We used the device for a few days and here’s how it fared.
The design of TECNO CAMON 15Pro is much premium than the previous smartphones. The Ice Jadeite colour is very much appealing and gorgeous. It has a polycarbonate plastic glossy finish at the back panel with quad-camera rear setup and lining pattern that makes it look attractive. The front has a bezel-less display with a slight chin at the bottom. The power and volume keys are placed on the right edge, a dual-SIM slot on the left. A speaker grille, USB port and 3.5mm jack are placed on the bottom edge and a pop-up selfie camera on the top edge. It is a little curved and I found it little difficult to easily fit in one hand. One thing that I liked about the phone is that even with glossy back, it attracts fewer smudges as compared to other smartphones. Also, you get a protective case in case you want to protect it completely against dust and smudges.
The TECNO CAMON 15PRO comes with a 6.53-inch Full HD+ Full View display and 91.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio and the phone does not feature any notch because of pop-up selfie camera. The display comes with 480 Nits peak brightness to give flagship-level experience. In normal light condition, the screen delivers bright and punchy colours. The outdoor visibility is good too as texts are easily readable in daylight conditions. The massive display will surely be a treat for your eyes as it offers an amazing viewing experience.
The smartphone comprises quad rear camera set up to provide the consumers with infinite creative possibilities. It has a 48MP sensor, 5MP ultra-wide-angle, 2MP macro sensor and low light lens. The rear camera also sports different options like video, short video, AI cam, beauty, Super Night, Bokeh, panorama, AR shot and portrait. The 48MP primary lens improves image clarity with higher resolution, which helps to capture more detail and take clearer pictures and we too found that the smartphone was able to take good camera shots with detailing and the colours are very well maintained by the camera. You surely won’t feel oversaturated and overexposed colours in the images. The phone can take very good macro shots and wide-angle shots too. For selfies, CAMON 15Pro features a 32MP AI pop-p selfie camera making the screen completely bezel-less. The camera on the CAMON 15 Pro pops out from the top edge with beautiful sound and light effect every time you wanted to take a selfie or start a video call. Also, with Ultra Night Clear Selfies, your night selfies will be the talk of your circle. With the Ultra Night Lens supported by DSP chip, f1.79 large apertures, AI image synthesis, ½” Sensor and 4-in-1 technology. As per the smartphone brand, it ensures efficient noise reduction, pixels correction, light optimization and provides users with night photography that highlights more details than the human eye can perceive. We found the selfie camera great as it captured good photos with in terms of colours, be it normal selfies or portrait shots. One can use Super Night mode in both rear and front camera for taking good pictures at night. As this price point, the camera is simply one of the best.
TECNO CAMON 15PRO Pro is powered by a 2.35 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P35 Processor and paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage that can expand the storage up to 256GB via microSD card slot. In our opinion, the processor is simply decent in terms of performance. We did not notice any major lag or shutter while using the device. However, you may face a little issue while playing high-graphics games. On the software front, it runs on HiOS 6.0.1, which is based on Android 10. We found the user interface to be smooth to operate. You will find the usual suite of Google apps, plus Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and games which all can be uninstalled. Both the security features — fingerprint as well as face unlock — were fast for unlocking the device.
The smartphone comes with a 4,000mAh battery, with AI power-saving and Safe Charge mode. Once fully charged, it will run for the whole day. On a single charge, the phone lasted for more than one day under normal usage. Our usage included watching videos, voice calls, surfing the Internet, streaming music, checking emails and games.
The newly launched smartphone is one of the best-designed smartphones from the company along with an impressive camera. Performance-wise, you will not find any major trouble while using the device. The phone competes with pop-up selfies phones like Realme X, Honor 9X etc. and has the power to woo its user base.
