TCL TS3015 Review: More Than Just Your TV Companion

TCL soundbar

Consumer electronics brand TCL, which is mostly known for its smart TVs and air conditioners, recently expanded its product portfolio in India with the launch of TCL TS3015, a 2.1 channel home theatre soundbar, which comes with a wireless subwoofer. Interestingly, this happens to be the first audio product launched by TCL officially in India. Priced at Rs 8,999, the soundbar comes with multiple wireless and wired connectivity methods, and it’s supposed to be a companion product for not only TCL TVs but also other televisions. So, where does it stand on different parameters of usage and excellence? Let’s find out in this review.

The entire setup of TCL TS3015 looks quite pleasing to the eyes owing to the all-black body that beautifully matches with any television, as majority of TVs today sport black colour panel. It comes with a 2.1 channel configuration. While the main bar is quite compact, sleek and has two audio channels, the subwoofer that is of a very standard size dedicatedly handles low-end frequencies. The biggest advantage of the wireless subwoofer is flexibility in positioning, as it can be placed at some distance from the main bar speaker with no uncovered wires. However, you need to plug the subwoofer into a power outlet, similar to the bar.

The soundbar is quite easy to carry around from one room to another or to any other place. Both the bar and the subwoofer can be comfortably placed on your TV stand or table where they perfectly holds the surface owing to circular rubber pods at the bottom which prevent them from skidding. As it’s the trend now, this new product can also be wall mounted for which TCL has bundled the necessary screws in the package. On the back of the soundbar are input ports (Aux, Optical, DC and HDMI Arc) and has enough space left to connect the cables in case you prefer to wall mount it. While the right side of the bar is plain, the left side houses push buttons for different functions (source, volume up and down, and Bluetooth on/off), and has USB and line-in ports. Similarly, there’s a power switch and DC port behind the subwoofer. Besides, it comes with a very sleek and slim remote to control the device wirelessly.

Although it has got a stylish and premium design, TCL has chosen to go minimalistic with this soundbar, except for the connectivity options. It wonderfully complements the sophisticated design of your smart TV having a size of 32-inch or beyond.

As mentioned above, the TCL 2.1 channel home theatre soundbar supports multiple connectivity options, including Bluetooth 5, HDMI Arc, Optical, and 3.5mm jack, and can be used as a standalone media player using its TF card slot. The various connectivity options mean that you can use the TS3015 with most televisions, tablets and smartphones.

Although it appears to be a bit complicated in the beginning to pair the TCL TS3015 to the source, as soon as the entire setup is installed it becomes quite easy to connect to a TV or your phone via Bluetooth, HDMI or line-in. You can use any of the port that does the job for you. The HDMI allows a somewhat cleaner setup and the USB port can be used to connect a pen drive or hard disk. Having a remote-control feature is an added advantage with this soundbar. The user-friendly and compact remote lets you control the power, volume, Bluetooth connection, and even sound modes – such as Movie, Music and News – from your couch.

The TCL TS3015 is superb, if we look at its performance. The soundbar together with the subwoofer deliver a punchy audio with extra bass. The vocals and tone sound clear at all the frequencies – low, mid and high – and there’s no distortion in sound. Thanks to two inbuilt speakers, the soundbar offers a great output ranging from 0 to 180W. No matter what you are watching and listening to, the three distinct sound modes – Movie, Music and News – will further enhance your listening and viewing experience. It also creates the ultimate home theater experience that you want. The Movie mode invites you to your own movie theater, with clear dialogues and great immersive movie experiences. The Music mode makes your music come alive, filling you with pleasure. And the News mode makes it easier to focus on what is said, without unnecessary distractions. It’s an all-round performer indeed.

Although it goes up against other reasonable options from brands like Blaupunkt, Thomson, Xiaomi and Philips, the TCL TS3015 is a value for money product, as it has the advantage of a dedicated wireless subwoofer at under Rs 10K, which not too many brands offer. Besides being a TV companion, it also works great as a standalone speaker, especially because of the support for Bluetooth (having a wireless range of 10 m) which facilitates you to pair it with a phone. What’s more, the 2.1 channel soundbar suits well with the decor in your room and it makes movies sound more fun.
