The top most wanted phone and amongst the first preference of the Indian buyers within affordable range is none other than Redmi which has completely taken over the market and this dominance has not been achieved without any effort. The company has thrown everything to make Redmi a leading smartphone brand and the mantra which the company followed is that it provided power performing features be it camera, processor or battery at a price range suitable to the Indian market. Xiaomi Redmi over the past years have shown the craze which it generates for its products especially the Note series and we have witnessed this craze as well when the company announced the online sale of Note 5 and Note 5 Pro and within seconds all the phones were bought and the rush of users to buy the phone to some extent even lowered the speed of the server. Well that’s all in past now and to continue the legacy and the benchmark which Note series has created, Redmi now in its recent launch introduced the successor of Note 5 and Note 5 Pro and the phone which we will be reviewing is Redmi Note 6 Pro meaning successor of Note 5 Pro. So let’s find out, does this new Note 6 Pro possesses all the ammunition or not to hold the ground strong which has been established by its predecessors.
Looks of the new Note 6 Pro is very generic, not something very flashy. The company has chosen to keep the looks very bold with solid color and the phone which we are reviewing has black matte look which gives aesthetic appeal to the phone. The body composition is mixture of plastic and metal rim and the body carries reasonable weight as well neither too heavy nor too less. The rear side looks very familiar with its predecessor Note 5 Pro holding dual rear camera sensors within one frame encompassing rear LED flash as well within the same frame. The fingerprint sensor lies at the center of the phone which responds quickly. The front side has upgraded look with notch and the notch is holding dual selfie camera sensor which is one of the attractive feature which the company has introduced. At the top side of the phone lies a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR emitter whereas at the bottom lies micro USB port and dual speaker grilles. The right side of the phone is sporting the power button and the volume rockers while at the left side lies the hybrid SIM tray.
The new Note 6 Pro has 6.26 inches IPS LCD capacitive touch screen with 16M colors. The company has adjusted with the latest trend of notch and Note 6 Pro is sporting a notch which you can choose to hide by going to display settings. The colors reproduced keep the phone visible under sunlight as well by adjusting the brightness according to the conditions. The display has tall and wide looks and it is mainly attributed to the impressive aspect ratio which is 19:9. The screen space offers screen size which can give satisfactory gaming experience and not just gaming experience you get comfortable feel of watching movies as well in HD quality on such a big screen. The resolution offered is of 1080×2280 pixels. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass resisting any scratch on screen.
Redmi Note 6 Pro is running on Android version 8.1 Oreo. In the Redmi Note 6 Pro you get MIUI version 9 and there are various features of the UI 9 like gesture control and various shortcut features but still there is no app drawer to be found. Xiaomi in its Note 5 Pro has introduced the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Soc Processor which is the most upgraded processor to be found in such price range and the new Note 6 Pro has the same processor. The CPU of the phone consists of octa-core 1.8GHz Kryo 260 and GPU Adreno 509. The processor of the phone no doubt runs smooth and the company has really worked on improving its heating issue which is evident in the new Note 6 Pro where we hardly came across any apps which can heat up the device. The heavy games to some extent do raise the temperature but to the rescue in the new Note 6 Pro the phone is loaded with 6GB of RAM. The phone is available in two variants in terms of RAM and ROM which is 4GB/32GB and other 6GB/64GB and we got the later version. Multitasking was smooth, there was no hitch in any processes and gaming experience is impressive as well with just minor downgrade in the graphics to match the requirements to that likes of Apshalt, PUBG, and NFS etc. The ROM available on the device is of 64GB which you can choose to expand by sacrificing one of your SIM slot.
Camera of the Redmi series always lured the buyers and we witnessed it as well in the previous launched models. The camera power especially in Indian smartphone arena needs to be impressive and Redmi knows it very well and to increase the benchmark further the new Redmi Note 6 Pro has introduced dual selfie camera sensors with the primary sensor being of 20MP with an aperture of f/2.0 and the secondary sensor is the depth sensor with 2MP and aperture of f/2.2. The selfies captured while testing the phone were very impressive and there is hardly any phone nearing this power of selfie camera of Note 6 Pro and the cherry on top is the selfie camera is AI driven which is in major demand nowadays and not just the selfie camera, the rear camera is AI driven as well. The selfies both at night and day were impressive and of top quality in terms of details and clarity. The rear camera on the other hand has the primary sensor of 12MP with an aperture of f/1.9 and dual Pixel PDAF whereas the secondary sensor is depth sensor of 5MP with an aperture of f/2.2. The rear camera is AI driven as well and extremely powerful and it stood well to the expectations in terms of delivering images of top quality. Refinements, adjustments were on spot with perfect balance between colors of the images captured. Graining was noticed only when we increased the camera resolution. There are obviously various modes like Portrait, Panorama, and HDR etc.
Any feature of the phone is not complete without the proper power supply and to provide the power Redmi Note 6 Pro has encapsulated battery of 4,000mAh, non-removable in nature. The battery ran almost throughout the day with some hours of game playing and enjoying movies. The charging speed was impressive as well and comparatively it is sports one of the fastest charging ability in any microUSB port though a Type-C would have been more desirable.
The Redmi Note 6 Pro, the successor of Redmi Note 5 Pro, improves on camera this time while the majority specifications remain the same. The cameras performance has increased a bit and at the same price, Rs 13,999 for 3GB version, it would be wise to go for Redmi Note 6 Pro but, for upgraders, there’s nothing special.
