The race of gaining large sum of customers especially in Indian smartphone section has become the prime concern of various smartphone companies. Amongst the smartphones the heavily contested price segment is budget range segment and all the companies tries to get a firm control in this segment by offering interesting features within affordable price range. One of the first favorite phone company of 21st century Nokia after losing its track in the smartphone market has gained the trust of the users with its continuous efforts of satisfying the needs with its ‘point’ series smartphones which have become a huge success over the period of the time. Nokia is all set to capture the most affordable price range section with its latest launch of Nokia 2.2 which is aimed at revolutionizing the price range segment under which it falls with AI. In this review we will highlight all the pros and cons of the Nokia 2.2.

Design

The new Nokia 2.2 has the stylish quotient which makes its stand totally different under the budget range section. The phone looks totally lavishing and gives an aesthetic appeal when held in the hands and some credit goes to the color variant in which it is available and we got metal color variant to review. The handling of the phone is also very easy as it has very light weight and curvy body edges which provide s easy grip. The body of the phone is composed of hard plastic. The front fascia of the phone is dominated by the tall impressive screen with dewdrop notch holding the selfie camera. The rear side has the single camera sensor placed vertically at the centre of the rear side with a LED flash within one frame. Exactly in the centre at the rear side lies the company logo. The speaker is also located at the rear side which might change the sound effect when placed on a surface. To the left side of the phone lies the Goggle Assistant button which is AI driven and learns from your experience. At the right side of the phone lies the power button and the volume rockers. At the top of the phone lies 3.5mm headphone jack whereas at the bottom lies the micro USB port. Interestingly the back cover is removable and the battery is removable in nature. Removing the back cover leads to dual SIM carrying slots and the microSD card holding slot.

Nokia 2.2 lacks the fingerprint sensor but it has installed face unlock feature which gives extra security to you phone from being misused. The face unlock feature is fast and it works well even in lack of proper lighting conditions.

Display

Holding tall and wide screen of 5.71 inch screen the new Nokia 2.2 in the budget range is the latest favorite. The screen type is IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors which and the colors reproduced are very bright and vivid and under such range 2.2 holds the most vibrant colors when compared to other smartphones of similar price range. The phone has impressive bezel less look with an aspect ratio of 19:9 which is providing wide screen space. The display completely doesn’t look bezel less as it has visible edges around the screen. The phone has screen resolution of 720×1520 pixels and 295 ppi density. The display size, screen ratio, pixel density of the Nokia 2.2 will surely dominate the budget range section by attracting the users with these features and will make the competition even tougher than before for other companies.

Platform

The new Nokia 2.2 is a part of Android family as it has latest Android 9.0 Pie on top of Android One. The new Nokia 2.2 is powered by MediaTek MT6761 Helio A22 (12 nm) quad core processor of 2.0 GHz and Cortex A53. The processor of Nokia 2.2 under this flagship is carrying one of the most powerful processor. The processor when tested performed very well and it easily carried out multitasking. The processor is supported by 3GB of RAM which helps the processor to carry out every task with ease and at the same time keeping the device in a stable state without letting the phone to exceed the heating limit. Nokia has also given special attention to game playing as the company has installed PowerVR GE8320 for high definition game playing.  Games played on Nokia 2.2 ran very smoothly in high definition but games of high requirement led to degradation in the graphic level. The internal storage of the phone is of 32 which could be expanded further with the help of microSD card. Nokia 2.2 is available in two variants in terms of RAM and ROM where one variant has 3GB/32GB RAM and ROM which we reviewed and the other variant has 2GB RAM and 3GB ROM.

Cameras

Nokia, since it has made comeback it has improved its various features and one such feature which has witnessed major change is the camera. Nokia in its ‘point’ series provides powerful cameras and the new Nokia 2.2 also has very impressive camera ability. The phone has rear sensor of 13MP with an aperture of f/2.2. The rear camera of the Nokia 2.2 is one of the best camera which one can find in smartphones of similar range as it is highly capable of delivering sharp, clear and detailed images. The daylight shots are very clear with proper colors intact and the images captured at night are also well detailed and clear. The noise effect and graining is observed at night when the resolution is increased. The selfie camera of Nokia 2.2 is of 5MP which has the charisma to attract the selfie lovers and that to at an affordable price range. The selfies captured at day are very well detailed and clear and similarly the selfies captured at night are also very clear. The lack of front LED flash is very well compensated by the screen flash which helps to clear selfies when lighting conditions are not favorable.

Battery

The new Nokia 2.2 is deriving its power for running its applications from 3,000mAh battery which is removable in nature. The battery of Nokia 2.2 has the power to last all day. When we tested the battery it lasted easily throughout the day with moderate use of the device by playing some hours of game, movies and listening music. The charging speed of the phone is moderate as the phone has micro USB 2.0 port for charging the device.

Conclusion

Nokia 2.2 is for beginners, those who want an upgrade from feature phone to smartphone with basic features such as removable battery, expandable storage upto 400GB and clean OS experience. The battery is sustainable, processor works fine and camera manages well. With an introductory price of Rs 6,999 for 2GB/16GB, Nokia 2.2 offers security updates and dedicated Google Assistant.
