Infinix Smart 3 Plus Review: A Budget Phone that Looks Really Good

Infinix Smart 3 Plus

Transsion Holdings’ brand Infinix recently launched a budget smartphone, the Smart 3 Plus in India. Priced at Rs 6,999, the Flipkart-exclusive Smart 3 Plus comes with a range of appealing features that may attract the people looking to have a budget smartphone. This is the first smartphone in its price category to introduce triple rear cameras with a dedicated low light sensor and a dual LED flash. The decent looking device is powered by the latest Android Pie 9.0 operating system and seems to be a direct competitor to some of the smartphones offered by Xiaomi, Samsung and Realme in budget range. Let’s have a look how it performed in our test.

Infinix Smart 3 Plus

The all-new smartphone comes with an outstanding design, which you cannot ignore at the first glance. The device boasts of a glossy finish at the back panel, which is equipped with a mirror finish. This gives some premium looks to the design and makes the smartphone stand out in the given price category. To enhance the phone’s sleek look and premium design, it is fitted with 2.5D curved glass on top and a stylish glass design at the back. It’s very lightweight and comfortably fits in your hand. You can have a tight grip of the phone.

Without doubt, we must say the Infinix Smart 3 Plus is one of the beautiful looking smartphones we have come across in the budget category. Although, you still need to settle with smudges at the back and front panel, but there is nothing to worry about as it comes accompanied by a stylish and very unique protective case. The smartphone is just 7.8mm thin and weighs only 148gm. It also comes with superfast fingerprint sensor and Face Unlock feature for enhanced security.

Infinix Smart 3 Plus display

Akin to design, display is another remarkable feature we liked about this device. The smartphone boasts of a 6.21- inch HD+ Drop Notch display with a screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels. It comes with an 88% screen to body ratio which gives edge to edge access of the smartphone display. The display also offers a brightness of 500 nits, considered an extremely good luminance rating. It’s quite decent considering the price category. It offers some good colour reproduction and viewing angles appear to be very decent. This device can definitely be a good option for those who wish to enjoy video content on a large screen.

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus is powered by MediaTek Helio A22 system-on-chip (SoC), a quad core processor that operates at a maximum frequency of 2GHz. The processor is paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The phone offers a smooth and faster software experience with XOS 5.0 Cheetah layer that boosts the latest Android Pie 9.0 OS’s operational capabilities and offers an optimized User Interface.

For gaming enthusiasts, the phone has a ‘Game Boost feature that allows the entire CPU resources to be dedicated towards a particular game for a seamless experience. Its smart photo cleaner tool, auto detects duplicate, blurry and dark pictures to delete them. Basically, the XOS 5.0 layer improves the Android Pie 9.0

OS experience substantially to make it more effortless and intuitive. Although the phone handles day to day operations without any hiccups, the weak processor fails to handle multitasking jobs or multiple apps in the background. Besides, the OS-level customisations and bloatware are also to blame for phone’s slow performance. Similarly, the device is not appropriate for graphic-intensive games.

Infinix Smart 3 Plus camera

In terms of optics, the triple camera module is another USP of the Infinix Smart 3 Plus, which happens to be the only phone in its category to have this feature. The back camera set-up houses a 13MP primary sensor, a 2MP depth sensor and a low light sensor of unspecified resolution, whereas, on the front, the handset has an 8MP camera. The rear camera module supports artificial intelligence based auto scene selection, which recognises up to eight different scenes and adjusts the frame settings accordingly. The camera interface also features a customised Bokeh mode, allowing manual control to set the background blur effect. The back cameras don’t eliminate noise in low light despite an exclusive sensor for that purpose. However, the pictures come out vibrant across the spectrum given its price. Similarly, the selfie camera produces quite good pictures if we compare it to similar devices available in the given price segment.

Additionally, both the cameras come with a pre-embedded AR sticker panel with 15 designs to add fun and quirkiness while clicking or sharing pictures with friends.

Infinix Smart 3 Plus battery

The Smart 3 Plus gets its fuel from a 3,500mAh battery along with AI smart power saving which gives a full day power back-up to the device. The battery packs a lot of punch for average users who do not click a lot of pictures or indulge in gaming. It takes over an hour to charge up to 100 per cent and could last for more than one day.

The Infinix Smart 3 Plus stands tall in the design, display and battery departments, considering its price. Similarly, it has a decent camera set-up. However, it falls a bit short of expectations. Since its processor is not up to the mark, it would have been a good package if it had a better processor that could keep up with multitasking.
