Franchise films are doing well at the box office and have quickly become the flavour of the decade. It is one reason every production house is looking for opportunities to revive their old successful films into franchises. The latest to create maximum buzz is the Dhoom series, which is now being revived with new faces.
Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor is set to lead the much-awaited Dhoom 4, which will begin filming in April 2026. Despite his packed schedule with projects like Love and War and Ramayan, Kapoor is gearing up for a major transformation to fit the role in this iconic action franchise.
According to reports, Kapoor will adopt a “distinct look” for the film. A source mentioned by News18 said, “The discussions with Ranbir have been going on for the longest time. He had always shown interest in being a part of Dhoom 4 on hearing the basic idea and is now finally confirmed to lead the franchise. Adi Chopra feels that RK is the ideal choice to carry forward the Dhoom legacy.”
The Dhoom series, which debuted in 2004 under Aditya Chopra, is being reimagined as a brand-new reboot called Dhoom Reloaded. This instalment will feature an entirely fresh cast, unlike the previous films. Two younger actors are expected to take on the roles of the iconic police duo, while Ranbir Kapoor will play the main lead.
“Kapoor will need to have a different look for Dhoom 4 and before starting that, he will wrap up his two existing projects. Dhoom 4 is expected to go on floors next April. The production team is currently looking to lock in two female leads and an antagonist for the film. Key contenders to play the antagonist in the film are being considered from the South,” said a person familiar with the events, as quoted by India Today.
Another source shared, “Kapoor will wrap up his ongoing projects before starting Dhoom 4. The production team is finalizing two female leads and an antagonist with contenders from South Indian cinema being considered for the latter role.”
Aditya Chopra and Vijay Krishna Acharya are collaborating to make Dhoom 4 a “cinematic experience like never before.” The movie aims to set a global standard for Indian action films.
Ranbir’s involvement in the project has been in discussion for a long time. Reports indicate that he is the ideal choice to carry forward the franchise’s legacy. While rumours suggest Kapoor may charge up to ₹100 crore for this film, there’s no official confirmation yet.
With Ranbir Kapoor stepping into the lead role and the franchise getting a fresh reboot, Dhoom 4 promises to be bigger and bolder than ever. Fans can expect a global-standard action film that redefines the legacy of this franchise.
