Snapchat gets group video calling, rolls out Mentions widely

As part of its ‘feature adding spree’, photo-sharing app Snapchat has introduced the new group video calling feature.

Snapchat, in a blog post said, “We designed Chat to feel less like texting and more like hanging out. That’s why when a friend opens Chat, their Bitmoji pops up to say “I’m here!”- and why your Chat conversations aren’t saved forever, by default. Today, we’re making Chat even more fun. Now you can video chat with up to 16 of your friends at one time.

In order to start a group video chat, the users can simply tap the camera icon in a group chat to add people to the chat, and the desired users will get a notification to join the same. Additionally, users can use Lens for usage of snap filters and face effects during a group video call, or conduct a group audio call which can allow up to 32 people at once.

Furthermore, introduced a month ago, the Mentions feature, which allows the users to mention a person in his or her Snapchat Stories, is rolling out widely.

The users are required to prefix “@” to the username he or she wishes to mention. Once the Story is posted, the tagged person will be notified about the tagging.

The new features will roll out globally to the users in the coming week.
