The Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company, MediaTek has now finally announced to launch first of its kind 5G modem, dubbed as “Helio M70”. MediaTek said that the product will be available in the global market by early 2019.

“Commercial availability of the modem would start from 2019. Some of the partners are Nokia, NTT Docomo and Huawei,” Joe Chen, President, Mediatek, told reporters here.

A company spokesperson said that Helio M70 would offer a network speed of 5Gbps and is also speculated to turn out a new “radio modem” for 5G. The upcoming modem would also “support critical carrier features”. According to MediaTek, the modem would be available as a discrete solution.

Reports also surfaced that the company is also expected to unleash a new chipset with the 5G modem, but it might be launched separately. Regarding the smartphones that would feature Mediatek’s recently-launched Helio P22 processor, Chen said: “The Company cannot reveal the name of the devices.”

He, however, added that the mobile phone makers themselves would announce the same.
