Home automation skills are now available on Cortana

Microsoft has now rolled out a slew of new features on its virtual assistant Cortana such as new home automation skills, new smart home devices, such as the Ecobee, Honeywell Lyric, and LIFX. The updated Cortana will now work with IFTTT, the free web-based service to create chains of simple conditional statements, called applets.

The new Cortana will now be opened in Windows 10 and also new products can be added on this via the connected Home Menu. Unlike, the older version of Cortana, the new updated one enables users to utilize IFTTT’s platform to connect to Cortana-enabled devices, whereas previously a third party services were required to add Cortana skills.

Now, users can make their Cortana more responsive and user-friendly by utilizing responses and triggers on IFTTT. People can now craft their own phrases that will help them connect and customize their experiences via IFTTT. Multiple actions can be performed with one single phrase with the help of the applets on IFTTT.

Back in October last year, Microsoft has announced that Cortana can be used to monitor and supervise smart devices via Samsung SmartThings, Nest, Philips Hue, Wink, and Insteon.
