Reports surfaced that users now have to link their Aadhaar identification details on Facebook if they wish to create a fresh account on the platform. From the past few days, the social media podium was asking for people’s Aadhaar details before creating their account.
In the screenshot, Facebook is seen asking the user his/her first and last name, which should be same as the one on the user’s Aadhaar card. The company is said to have asked the details to few users as a part of experimentation. As of now, it is not mandatory for every users to do the same, but in future they might require to do the same.
A Facebook spokesperson in an email interaction with GadgetsNow said, “We want to make sure people can use the names they’re known by on Facebook, and can easily connect with friends and family.”
“This is a small test where we provide additional language when people sign up for an account to say that using the name on their Aadhaar card makes it easier for friends to recognize them. This is an optional prompt which we are testing, people are not required to enter the name on their Aadhaar card,” it added.
